On Grad Hill in Nakovanj, the site of an ancient fortified Illyrian settlement has been preserved; it was reinforced with defensive ramparts and walls. The nearby Spila Nakovana cave was home to an Illyrian fertility sanctuary.
Culture and History
Finds from the Spila cave near Gornja Nakovana include fine Hellenistic pottery for storing and drinking wine, ritual feasts and votive offerings, as well as part of a bone zodiac circle associated with an astrologer's table and dating to around 100 BC.

A hiking trail towards the summit of St Elijah passes through Nakovanj. The abandoned stone settlement of Nakovanj provides the setting for a peaceful walk focused on cultural heritage.
