Kuželj: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

A 40 km-long section of the Gorski Kotar Cycling Route from Brod na Kupi to Tršće runs through Kuželj. The route follows the upper Kupa, passes through the hamlets of Kuželj, Gašparci and Turke, and features rapids as well as beaches suitable for swimming.

Nature

A bridge above Kuželjsko okno in the surrounding area offers views over the Kolpa Valley and towards the peaks of Gorski Kotar.

The Kuželjska Stena rock face in Slovenia is located nearby and is a nesting site for the rare and endangered species peregrine falcon and golden eagle.

The upper Kupa Valley, including the section of the Gorski Kotar Cycling Route running through Kuželj, is considered a preserved environment inhabited by more than 100 species of diurnal butterflies. The valley is often called “Butterfly Valley”.

The Bjelica stream flows into the Kupa near Kuželj and passes under the Savkin Bridge.

Hiking and Cycling

The Kostel Mountain Trail is a 19.1 km circular route intended primarily for full-day hikes.

The Kostel Mountain Trail is classified as moderately difficult and has an elevation gain of 880 metres.

For its first 16.2 kilometres, the Jelen Trail follows the Kupa upstream through Kuželj.

A variant of the Kostel Mountain Trail runs through Kuželj along the road.

The Jelen Trail includes viewpoints overlooking the Kupa Valley and towards the Republic of Slovenia.

A gravel road follows the Bjelica upstream and continues through the forest.

Culture and History

The chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk stands on the bridge in Kuželj.

In 1874, Mass was celebrated in the chapel on the bridge while the parish church was being extended.

In 2023, the 160th anniversary of its construction was commemorated in Kuželj at the chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk.

For the 2023 anniversary, the chapel was restored inside and out.

The bridge over the Belica in Kuželj was commemorated in 2023 on the occasion of the 160th anniversary of its construction.

At the 2023 anniversary celebration, the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County road administration was commended for having restored the Belica Bridge the previous year.
