Hiking and cycling with different focuses

The local selection of hiking and walking trails covers a total of 50 kilometres. One named circular route is H114 – Cesta maslina: it is 3 kilometres long and starts in Porat. Church history, archaeological remains and maritime heritage

The original parish church of Dubašnica stood at the Old Cemetery of St Apollinar. Its bell tower was built in 1618 and remains a symbol of Dubašnica to this day. The chapels, too, tell of the area’s long history: the Chapel of St Andrew is the oldest surviving chapel in Dubašnica. Originally Romanesque, it dates from the 13th or 14th century. The Chapel of St Nicholas was built in the 14th or 15th century; remnants of wall paintings survive on its south wall and on the walls of the sanctuary.

The courtyard of the Franciscan Third Order monastery houses a lapidarium of Croatian Glagolitic stone monuments. These include the Baška tablet, the Senj tablet, the Grdoselo fragment, the Krk inscription and the Valun tablet. The present-day layout of the monastery grounds in Porat, with its cloister and central well, dates from the 17th century. The DUBoak maritime heritage centre on the Malinska waterfront offers another way to explore history. It is located at the spot from which ships once set sail for Venice and nearby Rijeka, laden with wood.

The late antique religious complex of Cickini was built in the 5th or 6th century. The permanent archaeological collection at Cickini in Sv. Vid-Miholjice displays fragments of stone liturgical furnishings and decorated architectural sculptures. The House of Dubašnica Heritage, meanwhile, focuses on rural life: the old residential house was built for two families around the middle of the 19th century. Workshops on traditional cuisine, forgotten skills, traditional music and the Glagolitic alphabet are held there.
