Babina: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Babina is a natural harbor on the relatively low and accessible northern coast of Korčula. The coast around Blato is sparsely developed and lined with olive groves; the landscape offers views toward Hvar, the Pelješac Peninsula, and Biokovo. As a natural harbor, Babina is protected from southerly and easterly winds.

Geographical Location

Babina is one of the bays on Blato’s northern coast. This coast stretches from Babina in the east to Sprtiška in the west. Babina and the other bays along Blato’s northern coast are connected to Blato by paved roads.

At the heart of the bay is a pebble beach. Tamarisk bushes and olive trees near the shore provide deep shade.

Cycling and Nature

A marked 30-kilometer cycling route called Equator leads from Blato via Mala Kapja and Babina back to Blato. Blato’s cycling network comprises more than 140 kilometers of marked and mapped routes. The section of the Equator route toward Babina reaches the sea and olive groves, passes stone terraces covering most of the island’s hills, and runs near Krtinjica. Gambuzi fish live in this small pond.

Nearby is Mala Kapja, an estate on the main island road from Blato to Korčula. There, visitors can see cattle, feed them, and ride horses.

Hiking

The municipality of Blato has more than 40 kilometers of hiking trails. These include easy-going paths by the sea, through small bays, and through pine forests.

History and Culture

Babina was formerly a fishing village large enough to have its own school. Marija of Jesus Crucified Petković also attended this former school.

Regional Cuisine

In the Blato region, Kumpanjol is a dessert inspired by the island’s traditional sword dance and sold as a souvenir cookie. Blatska torta was created in Blato using ingredients from the traditional Lumblija recipe.
