Gradina: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Gradina preserves the layout of a prehistoric settlement. A levelled plateau in front of the parish church of St. Andrew marks the former centre of the settlement on the hill.

Culture and History

The parish church in Gradina, dedicated to St. Andrew, is believed to have been built in the 16th century over an older structure dating from the 11th century. An apse and three stone altars with wooden retables have been preserved. Its right-hand altar features an oil painting of Blessed Miroslav Bulešić; his relics are embedded in the main altar. The main altar depicts St. Andrew with the Blessed Virgin Mary and Child, St. Romuald and St. Sophia.

The chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary at the cemetery in Gradina was built in 1746 and restored in 1881. It is a single-nave building with one altar, two small side windows and a bell gable.

Geographical Location

Gradina is located at a crossroads of local roads from Poreč, Sveti Lovreč Pazenatički and Kloštar. The surrounding area of Gradina includes Dvigrad Castle, Škaraba, Otočić Sveti Juraj, Otočić Kuvrsada, Otočić Lunga and Sveta Fuma. Sveti Mihovil is in the immediate vicinity, while the Soardo-Bembo Palace is located in the wider regional area.

Nature

The Kontija Forest is a 65-hectare woodland area between Kloštar, Gradina and Flengi. It has maintained hiking and cycling trails as well as picnic spots. The forest is also home to a well-preserved stand of white hornbeam vegetation that is over 140 years old.
