Raša is a purpose-built mining town: the settlement was constructed in 547 days at the beginning of the 20th century. Raša lies among green hills and stands out for its distinctive architecture. The central square is dominated by the Church of St. Barbara; its roof structure is reminiscent of underground supports, while the attached bell tower resembles a miner’s lamp.

Culture
Built in 1937, the Church of St. Barbara has a cubist structure. Its covered porch with three semicircular arches is reminiscent of an Istrian loggia. Raša is also associated with historic architectural innovations.
Raša was designed as a modern town for miners and their families, with a school, a hospital and a cinema. Between 1928 and 1966, the Raša mine employed more than 10,000 miners.
The small Centar Arsia Mining Museum is located on Raša Square. It is accessible to people with disabilities and reduced mobility. The museum features a reconstruction of a mine shaft, as well as original rails and video projections.
The former Raša cinema was a cinema hall that was converted into a multifunctional multimedia space. The history and architecture of Raša are presented there.
Kova Experience offers mining tours for visitors. They recreate Raša’s mining past and take visitors into the mine. Potkop Karlota is also one of the mining sites: the tunnel is open in one direction over a length of 1.5 kilometres and is accessible for visits.
Paths and Routes
The Kovarski Puti reconstruct the paths that miners once took to work. The themed routes give visitors an impression of the demanding daily lives of the miners.
A 15-kilometre-long path begins in Raša next to the Church of St. Barbara, follows a former mining railway and passes a quarry and a mine before returning to the central square.
The Liburnia cycling route presents the local mining history and Raša.
