Culture
The House of Frescoes has a tourist information centre and a small gallery. It is located in the old school on Draguć’s main street. The house is closed and opens by prior arrangement. The key to St. Rocco is kept at the House of Frescoes in Draguć.
The Church of St. Rocco is a protected immovable cultural asset and part of Draguć’s historic urban ensemble. It contains a cycle of frescoes with 28 scenes from the life of Christ, Old Testament prophets and local patron saints. Glagolitic inscriptions refer to the donors, the painter, the year of construction and Draguć’s historical experiences.
The Chapel of St. Rocco is associated with protection from the plague. The frescoes in St. Rocco were painted by Anthony of Padua.
History
Draguć has Venetian fortifications. The parish church from the 15th century stands on the town square.
At the entrance to Draguć, the Chapel of St. Eliseus was built in the late 12th century. Its exterior alternates dark and light sandstone in regular horizontal rows, creating a miniature version of the Tuscan Romanesque style. St. Eliseus preserves a fresco scene depicting a knightly battle, which is the only figurative scene of its kind in Istria.
The Church of the Holy Rosary was built in 1641 on the site of an older church. It preserves altarpieces and five well-preserved wooden altars that were once used in Draguć’s churches.
Tradition
Every year, on the third Sunday in June, Draguć hosts the gathering „Z bajson u Draguć“ of bajs musicians.
Geographical Location
Draguć offers views of Lake Butoniga. The village is located 17 km from Pazin, on the Cerovlje–Buzet road and above Butoniga.
