Nature
The Staza Sedam slapova is a 15-kilometre hiking route with an estimated duration of five hours and is described as moderately difficult. It includes seven waterfalls, wooded areas, abandoned villages and the Kotli excursion site; Napoleon's Bridge is also located along the route. A steep section overcomes an elevation gain of 100 metres in less than one kilometre and is secured with steel cables. The route starts in Sveti Ivan, and the car park next to Istrian Brewery is recommended as a free parking area. As a circular route, it runs from Buzet near the Istrian Water utility company via Selca, Glistonija, Kuhari and Kotli and back to Buzet. Walking the route is at your own risk.
The 263 Oprtalj–Čepić Trail is 19.4 kilometres long, of medium difficulty, and has a stated duration of six hours and 30 minutes. It leads through fields and small forests towards Sveti Ivan and then returns to Sveta Lucija. The Put Biske hiking trail begins in Buzet (Sv. Ivan) and runs via Sv. Križ, Cunj, Glistonija and Šćaveti to Hum.
The 510 Rome Trail also reaches Sveti Ivan: it descends to the village, passes beneath the viaduct and continues to the Buzet bus station.
Culture
The Church of St John the Baptist in Sveti Ivan was built in 1634. It has three masonry altars with wooden retables; the main altar features wooden statues of John the Baptist, John the Evangelist and St Michael. The Church of St Mary Magdalene in Sveti Ivan was built in 1325 and has a bell tower without bells.
A centuries-old tradition is the horn-throwing game Igra na ruh, played along the road between Sveti Ivan and Most. According to local tradition, it began when millers reconciled after a long dispute over the water used to operate their mills. The Svetiivanjske mačkare also continue a centuries-old carnival tradition.
