Rim: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Rim is considered an archaeological site near Roč. Rim has Roman stone monuments, inscriptions, and reliefs from the 1st and 2nd centuries. Roman stelae have been discovered in Roč and the surrounding area, including Rim. During the Roman period, Rim was a larger settlement below the prehistoric hillfort and the medieval castle of Roč.

History

The archaeological area of Rim includes a Late Antique necropolis. Its graves were built from reused ancient stones. Archaeological investigations at Sv. Maurus in 1979–80 identified two Late Antique buildings dating from the 4th or 5th century. One of the excavated buildings was a rectangular residential building. Part of a large storehouse with sturdy foundations and thick walls was also uncovered.

Traces of a mosaic floor were found at the Byzantine church associated with Sv. Maurus. An inscription once associated with this church, now lost, named the church’s patron saint and Bishop Frugifer of Tergeste.

Nearby Roč’s Romanesque Chapel of St. Peter preserves remnants of two layers of wall paintings from the 14th and 15th centuries. The “Juri Žakan Glagolitic Printing House” in Roč contains a replica of Johann Gutenberg’s printing press. A cylindrical bell from the Roman period has been documented in Rim, located near Roč. Some archaeological finds from Rim are preserved in the Roman Lapidarium in Roč. The Aleja Glagoljaša is a cultural and tourist attraction with 11 monuments along a 7-kilometre route between the medieval towns of Roč and Hum.

Srednji Vrh and Gradac are located in the immediate vicinity of Rim. Sokolić, Stari Draguć, Svi Sveti, and Sveti Stjepan are located in the surrounding area of Rim. Further afield in the region around Rim are the “Maiden With The Seagull” statue by Zvonko Car and Vedetta di Moccò.

Cycling

Fourteen cycling routes are listed for Buzeština, including 510 Put Rima, an MTB route. The official 510 Rome Trail is a 25.67-kilometre cycling route of medium difficulty. It reaches Rim via a narrow path before the first house. After Rim, the route climbs on asphalt for approximately 650 metres before turning onto a gravel road towards Puški.
