Kaštel: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The hilltop of Kaštel overlooks the Dragonja Valley; at the same time, it contains evidence of a prehistoric fortified hilltop settlement. The rural ensemble of Kaštel above the Dragonja comprises the cultivated landscape of the Acropolis settlement hill and the archaeological site. The ensemble bears the Croatian cultural heritage designation Z 2482.

History and Sacred Architecture

Kaštel was first documented in 1064. In 1310, the town was conquered and burned down by the Venetians; traces of the castle are still visible on the hill.

The parish church of St Saba was built in 1869 on the site of an older church. The single-nave building has two side chapels and contains wooden statues of the Blessed Virgin Mary and saints.

Nature and Landscape

The Cingarela waterfall and cave lie between Kaštel and Momjan.

Traditions and Events

The traditional Šparogada gastronomic festival takes place every year in Kaštel and is based on wild asparagus. The festival includes cycling and hiking excursions; various dishes made with wild asparagus are also sampled.

Šparogando is a recreational walk through the landscapes and culinary worlds around Kaštel. The announced Šparogando format includes five food stops where local specialities are served with local wines.

The Kaštel-Dragonja border crossing is an access point through which the area can be reached by car.
