Vadreš: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Vadreš is considered a prehistoric archaeological site (A20). In Barban, Trka na prstenac is part of Croatia’s intangible cultural heritage: historical records date the competition to 1696; it was revived in 1976 and has been held annually in Barban ever since. Culture and History

The architectural development of Vadreš is also subject to a clear requirement: the buildings are to be preserved in their existing dimensions and restored using traditional materials. Near Želiski, Route 631 Barban passes the 14th-century Church of St Paul. In Barban itself, the Church of St Anthony the Abbot dates from the late 14th century; it contains 15th-century frescoes and Glagolitic graffiti from the 16th century.

Local culture also includes Barbanski kolač, a traditional cake from the Barban area associated with wedding customs, and Barbanski rančin. This traditional souvenir is based on an earring from the 11th century found near Barban, which is protected as Croatian cultural heritage.

Nature and Trails

Route 631 Barban runs through the Barbanski forests and cultivated fields, offering views of the hills and the Kvarner Sea. The Putem-Šparuga Trail starts and ends in Prnjani, is 6.2 kilometres long, has an elevation gain of 93 metres and takes two hours. The trail includes the Jelensko viewpoint, overlooking a quarry and the Raša River valley.

The Putem-Izvora Trail is a circular route from Hrboki via Piska and Puntera back to Hrboki. Signposts lead to the springs of Čažuni and the courses of the Raša River. The Putem-Mlinova Trail runs from Sutivanac through the Raša valley and back; one route leads to mills and springs for visitors to explore.

The Putem-Špilja Trail is an easy 12.5-kilometre hiking and cycling route that reaches the Feštinsko kraljevstvo cave. Along the route, there are views of Učka and the sea; it also includes a cave, the remains of a former town, prehistoric fossils and cave formations near Feštinsko kraljevstvo. The Barban–Puntera–Most-Raša–St Nicholas Church mountain-biking tour passes through Vadreš at kilometre 45.5. Via asparagus also runs near Vadreš, a 3.4-mile hiking route with approximately 364 feet of elevation gain and a moderate level of difficulty.

Geographical Location

Barban is connected via the former Pula–Rijeka main road and regional roads towards Žminj and Vodnjan.
