Štivan developed above a valley that opens into Marašćica Bay. The village is also one of the waypoints on the sixth stage of the Via Apsyrtides.

Culture and history

The parish church of St John was built at the end of the 18th century. Its bell tower stands separately; a road separates it from the church building. The local parish is dedicated to St John the Baptist. The settlement also has the chapels of All Saints and St Vitus, which is also known locally as St Blaž.

The Chapel of All Saints is registered in Štivan as a protected immovable cultural asset under registration number Z-1849. Štivan developed through the expansion of the village of Sv. Ivan (Gornje Selo).

Štivan’s local history is also associated with Dinko Muškardin, a prominent figure who served as the village’s parish priest for many years and was a passionate beekeeper. His innovative work laid the foundations for modern Croatian beekeeping.

A water source is also designated next to the church in Štivan.

Regional traditions
