Zbičina: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Zbičina belongs to the historic area of Gerbin in the west of Cres. The village’s appearance is particularly distinctive: the houses in Zbičina have a clearly vertical form that differs from the typical residential buildings in the neighboring settlements.

Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Zbičina chooses the village itself as their holiday destination.

Culture and History

The Chapel of St. Michael stands in the village. In the cultural heritage register, it bears the designation Z-1851 and is classified as a protected immovable individual cultural asset. At the entrance to Zbičina, there is also the Chapel of Our Lady of Health, built in 1912.

Zbičina is also listed in a municipal overview of settlements associated with sacred buildings dating from the 6th to the 15th century.

Location and Landscape

Zbičina is located at a crossroads of old paths leading to Lubenice, Pernat, Podol and Valun. Below the village stretches the deep Dolci Valley, while the steep, wooded hill of Komunada rises above it. To the north and east, the views extend towards Valun Bay, Veli verh and Perska.

In the surrounding area, panoramic viewpoints offer views of Lake Vrana. Access to the lake is strictly prohibited because it is the only source of drinking water for both islands.

Cycling Routes

The Cres-Marina–Valun gravel route reaches the highland villages of Pernat, Podol, Zbičina and Lubenice. Zbičina can be reached from Cres Marina via Valun and the higher-lying villages above Valun by a gravel cycling route; the distance to Valun is approximately 15 km. The route begins at Cres Marina and initially follows Cres’s water supply pipeline.

The distance from Lubenice to the chapels of St. Michael and St. Peter is given as 2 km.
