Vrana gives Lake Vrana its name: the 5.75 km² freshwater lake lies in the centre of Cres and reaches a maximum depth of 74.5 metres. Its unusual elevation and depth make it a cryptodepression.

The freshwater ecosystem of Lake Vrana is home to pike, European chub, tench, rudd, freshwater mussels, crayfish and dice snakes.
Access to Lake Vrana is strictly prohibited because the lake is the source of drinking water for Cres and Lošinj. Several viewpoints offer panoramic views over the lake.
