Jasenovac: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Jasenovac is located in Lonjsko Polje Nature Park on the left bank of the Sava, opposite the mouth of the Una. Its location between the two rivers defines the geographical classification of the settlement.

Nature and Cycling Routes

The 77.8-kilometre National Sava Cycle Route runs through Jasenovac after Drenov Bok and then continues towards Novska. From Jasenovac, the SMŽ 1 cycle route also continues along the confluence of the Una and Sava, following the settlements on the left bank of the Una.

The Krapje Information Centre of Lonjsko Polje Nature Park can be reached by leaving the motorway in the direction of Jasenovac and turning at the junction before the Sava bridge towards Drenov Bok and Krapje. It is located at house number 16 at the beginning of Krapje.

Remembrance and Education

The Jasenovac Memorial Site is defined by Bogdan Bogdanović’s Flower Monument. It includes earth mounds and depressions marking former camp structures and execution sites, a path by the lake, a memorial train on the former camp railway, the Jasenovac Memorial Museum and the Jasenovac Education Centre.

The permanent exhibition at the Jasenovac Memorial Museum focuses on individual personal fates in connection with mass crimes. The museum also preserves and presents materials associated with the Jasenovac camp and its prisoners.

The Jasenovac Memorial Museum was built directly next to the inner area of the former Camp III Ciglana Jasenovac and opened on 4 July 1968.

The Jasenovac Education Centre was opened together with the Memorial Museum on 27 November 2006. There, young people learn to recognise, prevent and stop forms of violence, as well as to protect potential victims.

The Education Centre invites visitors to reflect on the victims, the causes and perpetrators of crimes, resistance to crimes and their own attitude towards crimes.

Local Life and Architectural History

At the centre of Jasenovac stands the parish church of the Assumption of Mary and Saint Bishop Nicholas, which was built in 1829. Buildings of the former Kožara labour group have also been preserved in the settlement.

The Feast of the Assumption of Mary is celebrated in Jasenovac with a procession. Its route leads across Trg kralja Petra Svačića, part of Preradovićeva Street and Štrosmajerova Street.
