The Municipality of Krapinske Toplice grew up around a thermal spring. This shapes the character of the municipality: thermal waters and wellness sit alongside historic chapels, archaeological traces and local cultural offerings. When planning your trip, you can first decide whether water experiences, culture or activities should be the main focus, and then choose a holiday apartment for your stay.

Thermal waters and active experiences

At the Aquae Vivae water park in Krapinske Toplice, the pools cover an area of more than 18,000 m². There are five indoor pools and one outdoor pool, all filled with natural thermomineral spring water. The offerings include more than 160 water attractions, including waterfalls, geysers, underwater side massages and massage loungers. This lets you plan a stay with a variety of water experiences, without having to limit yourself to just one type of pool.

There are also specific options for those seeking something special: Aquae Vivae has a 4.5 m-deep diving pool, with professional equipment and diving instructors. If you would like to include activities beyond the water, Krapinske Toplice is home to the Horses for Champions centre, where you can go horse riding, as well as the Heli Center, which offers a flight simulator experience. The Toplički pješački prsten includes medical, recreational and fitness trail groups. This range of options helps you tailor your stay to your own interests, rather than planning every day in the same way.

Chapels, history and local life

The Chapel of St Mary Magdalene stands on Zašat Hill, east of the centre of Krapinske Toplice. It was built in 1874 on the site of an older wooden chapel. Archaeological investigations in the surrounding area uncovered finds that point to a prehistoric hilltop settlement. They are provisionally dated to the Late Bronze Age, from 1200 to 800 BC. The chapel thus brings together a prominent historic building and traces of a much older settlement.

Another chapel, dedicated to St Anthony, stands on a hill in Hršak Breg, 2 km from Krapinske Toplice; it was built in 1899. The octagonal Chapel of St Nicholas was built by Zagreb lawyer Nikola Valičić in the first half of the 19th century. A new owner had it extensively restored in 2007. The parish church of the Holy Trinity houses an organ built by Leonard Ebner of Maribor in 1860.

The spa park also tells the story of how the town has changed: it was laid out in 1861 together with the spa and now has the character of a square in front of the old spa building. A horse chestnut avenue lines both sides of the road between the spa and the former Bellevue restaurant. BadlFest is a traditional festival held every year in Krapinske Toplice. Kino Toplice reopened in mid-2022 after more than 20 years.
