The Karolina passes through Bosiljevo. It was built to connect Croatia’s inland region with the Adriatic coast, in particular Karlovac and Rijeka. As a historic road, it connects Karlovac and Bakar; it was built between 1726 and 1728. The remains of Stelnika Castle lie northeast of Bosiljevo; the first written record of it dates from 1682. Rare and exotic tree species can still be found there today. The municipality therefore offers history-minded travellers several points of interest from different periods.

The present-day Church of St. Maurus in Bosiljevo also has a clearly dated building history: it was built between 1896 and 1905 and consecrated in 1913. A local tradition is associated with the nearby Chapel of the Assumption of Mary on Gradišće. According to the tradition, the Mother of God disappeared from Gradišće and appeared to shepherds in the area around Bosiljevo.

Festivals and Local Traditions

In Vodena Draga, the feast of the patron saint, St. Helena, is celebrated every year with a Mass and a traditional pilgrimage. In the Parish of St. Maurus, the main feast is dedicated to St. Vitus and falls on 15 June; the main parish festival takes place on the first Sunday afterwards. Both traditions offer different insights into the municipality’s religious customs.

Kestenijada pairs roasted chestnuts with products from local family farms and small craft businesses. The traditional event took place on 11 October 2025 in Bosiljevo, on the sports ground of PŠ Ivan Goran Kovačić. This date refers to the 2025 event; it is not an indication of a future date.
