Culture and History

Stari grad Bosiljevo was built by the Frankopan family in the 15th century. The complex has an irregular pentagonal floor plan and was added to the Croatian Register of Cultural Heritage in 2002. The park around Stari grad Bosiljevo is a protected horticultural monument dating from 1974. The park woodland surrounding the building provides a setting for relaxation in nature.

The present-day parish church of St. Mavra was built between 1896 and 1903 and consecrated in 1913. KUD Frankopan preserves songs and dances from the Bosiljevo area. Bosiljevo is also considered the homeland of Ana Katarina Zrinski.

The remains of Stelnika are located northeast of Bosiljevo. Rare and exotic tree species grow in the park that was later established there.

Nature

The wooded hills of Bosiljevo are associated with mushroom and chestnut gathering.

Geographical Location

The 18th-century Karolina Road runs through the area, while the Lujzijana Road from the early 19th century passes nearby. Bosiljevo lies between the Bosiljevo 1 motorway junction on the Zagreb–Split–Ploče route and the Bosiljevo 2 junction on the Rijeka–Zagreb route.

Traditions

The most important pilgrimage festival in Bosiljevo is the Feast of Saint Vitus on 15 June. The larger pilgrimage takes place on the first Sunday after this date.
