Karst, Rivers and Cycling Routes
The municipality is part of the Dinaric karst of Karlovac. Its landscape includes numerous sinkholes, grassland and stands of birch, oak, beech, hornbeam and chestnut. The Dobra flows through the area of Netretić. The Kupa also has different stretches in the area: quiet sections give way to rapids, while the river runs between fields and high, rocky banks. Cyclists can choose from several routes with different itineraries. The 18-kilometre Route 4, “Uz tok rijeke Mrežnice,” passes through Netretić on its recommended route. It offers views of mountains, hills and valleys in the surroundings of Ribnik and Netretić. Route 8, “Karlovac–Pokuplje–Karlovac,” runs from Netretić via Vinski Vrh to Novigrad na Dobri. Another option is the Žakanje–Netretić–Žakanje cycling loop: after passing through villages along the Kupa, it leads to Netretić and offers views towards Slovenia. Bridge, Castle and Church Art
Two notable historic landmarks are located near Novigrad na Dobri. The ruins of Stari grad Novigrad na Dobri Castle, built by the Frankopans, remained in their possession until 1671. A viewing point with a view over the Dobra Valley has been set up in a fully completed tower. Novigrad na Dobri is also home to the Most na Dobri, one of Croatia’s oldest river bridges. It is 122 metres long and has ten openings.
The Church of the Assumption of Mary in Novigrad na Dobri is one of the oldest churches in this part of Croatia. It developed from a Gothic chapel built in the 15th century and was given a Baroque makeover in the 17th century. Particularly impressive are the wall paintings uncovered beneath several layers of paint: on the richly painted vault, they depict dozens of musical angels playing medieval instruments. The Parish Church of St Mary Magdalene in Srednje Prilišće also has a clear historical timeline: it was consecrated in 1868, before the parish was established in 1876.
Other cultural monuments are spread across various settlements in the municipality. Classified as individual immovable cultural property are the Church of St Leonard in Donje Prilišće, the Church of St Catherine and the parish rectory in Kunići Ribnički, and the rural cultural and historical complex of Donji Mrzljaki in Mrzljaki. The Church of St Anthony in Rosopajnik and the Church of St George in Vukova Gorica have the same status. In Završje Netretićko, this classification applies to the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, as well as the Chapel of St Joseph and the parish rectory. The Strahovnjak economic complex in Vinski Vrh is also classified as a cultural property.
