Sarafovo: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Anyone looking to rent a holiday apartment in Sarafovo can continue searching for accommodation afterwards. Between ancient traces, Lake Atanasovsko and the long sandy beach, the town reveals itself in many different facets.
Culture and History
Sarafovo was founded in 1920 by refugees from Eastern Thrace. The ancient and medieval harbour, as well as Sarafovo’s town fortress, date from the 4th to the 6th century. The remains of a Roman settlement lie around 2 km north of Sarafovo; part of the settlement is underwater.
Nature
Lake Atanasovsko is a maintained nature reserve and a Ramsar wetland. At the same time, it is a shallow, hypersaline lagoon with an average depth of 30 cm. A total of 333 bird species have been recorded in the Lake Atanasovsko area. Two visitor trails are designated there, one short and one long.
Coast and Beach
Sarafovo Beach stretches for around 1.5 km and offers sand and shallow water. The sand is fine; darker sections are associated with iron and magnetite. The seabed at the beach is shallow and slopes gently. Groynes on the beach help protect the bay from strong currents and large waves.
Visitors can watch aeroplanes flying very low near Burgas Airport from the beach. Sarafovo’s fishing harbour has electricity and water points in its berthing areas.
Getting Around
Sarafovo has bus connections to Burgas, Pomorie, Nessebar and Sunny Beach. A coastal promenade connects Sarafovo with the Burgas Sea Garden for walkers and cyclists. Sarafovo Beach can be reached from Burgas by municipal bus route 15.
The municipal Green Corridors cycle tour connects Burgas, Lake Atanasovsko, Sarafovo’s archaeological harbour and fortress, as well as the Thracian tomb near Camp Europa. The 20.2 km route includes sections on cycle paths, asphalt and unpaved roads.
