Burgas: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Burgas’s Sea Garden stretches for more than 5 km and covers 600 decares. The old section is protected as a monument of park art. Ezero Park connects Burgas’s Sea Garden with the protected zone of the Atanasovsko Lake nature reserve. It features rare trees and shrubs, sculptures from an international symposium, a horse-riding centre and tennis courts. The Poda protected area is open for birdwatching year-round and has designated routes, an observation hut and a tower; 265 bird species have been observed there. The birdwatching site at Atanasovsko Lake and the Spoonbill Trail are most conveniently reached via Ezero Park.

Culture and History

The Marine Casino officially opened in 1938, was restored in 2011 and reopened as a contemporary cultural centre. Its halls and outdoor areas are used for concerts, theatre performances, film screenings, exhibitions, book presentations, workshops, training sessions and festivals. Binoculars and telescopes are available on the highest terrace for viewing Burgas Bay.

Aquae Calidae contains Roman baths dating from the 1st century AD, including warm and cold pools, as well as the fortified walls of the ancient city of Therme, also known as Thermopolis. The Burgas Aviation Museum displays civilian and military aircraft that were part of Bulgarian aviation between 1960 and 1996. The interactive Homo Volans exhibition is located inside an AN-12 aircraft. Visitors can use virtual reality glasses to simulate piloting an aircraft.

Sveti Anastasia Island served as a monastery and, for a time, as a prison. The island offers a maritime restaurant, a café-pharmacy, a small amphitheatre, a museum and a small beach. Municipal catamarans regularly run from Magazia 1 at the Port of Burgas to the island.

Local Traditions

Chengene Skele, 15 km south of Burgas, is described as a place that preserves local fishing traditions through exhibition houses, demonstrations of net weaving and maritime knot tying, traditional dishes and specialities prepared according to old recipes. Restaurants along the Sea Garden’s coastal promenade are said to serve dishes based on old Burgas recipes.
