A recurring cultural heritage gathering of Obidim takes place every five years in the Machishta Meadow, approximately 2 km from the village. The tradition began in 1968 and brings together residents and people with family roots in Obidim. Pastoralism was Obidim's predominant traditional livelihood. Some residents traditionally moved south with their herds in winter, towards the Aegean.
Obidim and neighbouring Kremen became an important centre of the IMRO in the surrounding mountain region. Before the Ilinden–Preobrazhenie Uprising, 200 residents from Obidim and Kremen received military training from Yane Sandanski at Izvoreto. A battle between IMRO units and Ottoman troops took place near Obidim on 13 and 14 September 1903. Obidim was burned down in both 1903 and 1912.
