Holiday apartment in Mišići – River landscape and mining culture

Mišići is an urban settlement on the regional road from Milići to Zeleni Jadar and lies on both sides of the Zeleni Jadar River. This brings together in one place a clearly recognisable river landscape, hilly surroundings and the history of the “Boksit” company, which is closely connected with Milići.

Nature

The Zeleni Jadar is the most important watercourse in the area of the Mišići local community. The land along the river forms a floodplain there that is suitable for cultivation. The rest of the Mišići local community is hilly and is predominantly suitable for livestock farming and fruit growing. These two landscape forms lie directly next to each other: the floodplain along the river and the hilly, agriculturally characterised area beyond it.

Regional nature and land-use areas also extend into the municipality of Milići. The Zvornik angling region also includes the municipality of Milići; fishing there is carried out exclusively on the Jadar River. The Birač hunting region also includes the municipality of Milići. It comprises the Komić and Javor hunting grounds. Following rainfall, the water level of the Zeleni Jadar rose, putting the dam in the Mišići district of Milići at risk.

Culture

Mining history has shaped several places in Milići. The mining museum in the Dom rudara displays awards and documents relating to the establishment and history of the “Boksit” company. The mining museum also presents mineral samples, work and protective equipment, written documents, and an audio and video archive. The permanent “Boksit” exhibition in Milići features mining equipment outdoors, ranging from the mine carts used in 1959 to large loading and transport machines.

At the top of Rajkov Tower is the “Nekad i sad” exhibition, featuring 50 photographs about 50 years of the development of “Boksit” and Milići as a modern urban settlement. Rajkov Tower also offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the surrounding landscape.

In the centre of Milići is the “Jovan i tri sestre: Angelina, Đurđa i Drina” Botanical Garden. Covering 2,000 m², it contains a total of 137 exotic trees from all continents. The “Park velikana” in Milići contains 36 monuments. The park is divided into three separate areas: a park of Serbian, a park of Russian and a park of European historical figures. Among other things, busts of Tesla, Picasso, Mozart and Aristotle can be seen there.

The cultural calendar includes the “Avgustovski dani kulture i sporta”, organised by the municipality of Milići. The “LJetnji festival kulture i sporta” in Milići is organised and supported as its main sponsor by “Boksit”.

Sport

In Milići, the “Supač polje” sports and leisure centre is a sports and recreational facility. A sports centre is also designated in Mišići. The two references therefore indicate different locations within the area described, without implying any further characteristics of either centre.
