Holiday apartment in Mali Radić: cycling route, landscape and Šujnovac

Around Mali Radić, cycling connections, landscape and history come together. The place can be explored through specific routes, the structure of the settlement, named elevations and inherited traces. Local livelihoods and a municipal project add further dimensions to the connection with the area.

Cycling

A cycling route leads from Bosanska Krupa via Vranjska to Mali Radić and back to Bosanska Krupa. The cycling route plan for the municipality of Bosanska Krupa was designed to connect surrounding places with the town centre of Bosanska Krupa. During the Ljetna biciklijada, the organisers described the route as challenging and unsuitable for racing bikes. It was 32 km long and comprised 17 km of gravel and 15 km of asphalt. Its course led via Bosanska Krupa, Vranjska, Čardak, Gornja Suvaja and Mali Radić to the Šujnovac excursion destination. The destination has a forest path with benches, suitable for walkers and featuring gentle ascents and descents. Thus, a municipal cycling-route connection and a specifically described event route stand side by side.

Landscape

The ridge of Grmeč, which ends at the cone-shaped Badnjevića hill at 463 m, separates the Radić valley basin into Veliki Radić and Mali Radić. The local landscape gives the elevation of Zloimenjak as 909 m. Between Zloimenjak and Obljaj, the local wind noćnjik begins after sunset. The valley, hill, higher elevation and local wind give the landscape around Mali Radić a precisely named structure.

Culture and history

A historical account divides the settlement of Mali Radić into Kamenica, Obljaj and Ravna Dolina. Remains of Obala Castle have been documented in the surroundings of Mali Radić. Livestock farming and agriculture are considered livelihoods in Mali Radić. In the areas reached by the local wind noćnjik, wheat is considered particularly good. A municipal water-supply project included Mali Radić as one of the Podgrmeč returnee villages and was intended to improve the supply of clean drinking water. Thus, the structure of the settlement, historical traces, agriculture and municipal development occur in different local contexts.
