Culture

In Tolisa, the Tolisa Franciscan Monastery and the Church of the Assumption of Mary were built in the second half of the 19th century: construction of the monastery began in 1862, and construction of the church began in 1864 according to plans by the architect Josip Vancaš. The church measures 58.0 × 20.0 metres and was considered the largest Catholic church in Bosnia and Herzegovina at the time. The parish Church of the Assumption of Mary and the Franciscan Monastery, together with the movable property, form a protected national monument complex of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The “Vrata Bosne” Museum in Tolisa Monastery preserves collections of paintings, archaeological and numismatic cultural heritage, as well as textiles and a library. The historic Beledija, also known as Mala vijećnica, in Odžak was built in 1903 and is protected as a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Sultan Abdul Aziz Mosque, also known as the Azizija Mosque, stands in the centre of Orašje; it was built in 1863. The “Dani hrvatskog filma Ivo Gregurević” film festival is taking place again in Orašje. For the 2026 edition, the official opening was scheduled for 29 August, while a film workshop was planned from 27 August to 4 September. The “Dani Tolise” event was opened in Tolisa for the 19th time.

Nature

The “Starača” protected area is a protected landscape in the municipality of Odžak and covers 424.4 hectares. The “Tišina” protected area is a protected landscape in the municipality of Domaljevac-Šamac and covers 471.91 hectares.

The gentle slopes of Vučjak reach around 209 metres and are considered the highest elevation in Posavina. The Vučjak area includes hunting grounds as well as numerous picnic areas and walking trails.

Water

Abonos is waterlogged oak wood recovered from river mud at the Begova bara site in Oštra Luka and processed into objects, jewellery, household furnishings, and furniture.

The long-running folklore event “Domaljevačka tkanica” in Domaljevac-Šamac attracts numerous visitors and folklore groups from various regions. At the event, visitors were able to view and purchase handicrafts and traditional products from local agricultural family businesses. The Fišijada is one of the events held in Posavina Canton.
