Franopaĺ: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Franopol Hillfort is situated on a promontory on the left bank of the Ryta River. Its circular area has a diameter of 30 metres and is surrounded by a rampart 1.5 to 2.5 metres high. The site was established around 950 to 1000 and destroyed at the turn of the 10th and 11th centuries.

History

Finds from the Franopol Hillfort include spearheads, arrowheads, axes and a sword crossguard. A fitting from a sword scabbard found at the Franopol Hillfort is among the weapon finds from the western territories of Rus'. Excavations at the Franopol Hillfort uncovered wooden structures on the inner side of the rampart to prevent landslides, as well as temporary wooden buildings that served to protect the population from nearby open settlements during a siege.
