Nature

The Białowieża Forest lies in the vicinity of Makovišča as a large forest complex on the border between Poland and Belarus. Thanks to several periods of protection, the forest has remained in its natural state to this day. The World Heritage area of the Białowieża Forest comprises lowland forests characteristic of the Central European terrestrial ecoregion of mixed forests. It protects a diverse and species-rich wildlife; the bison is its iconic symbol.

Active pursuits

In the vicinity of Makovišča, the “Animal Crossing” hiking trail runs along the southern edge of the forest through wooded sections, clearings, floodplain areas and a marsh. Thirty percent of the route runs on a paved surface and 70 percent on an unpaved path. This division makes the differing surfaces along the route concrete. The “Tsar’s Meadow” cycling route is 10 km long, easy, and designed to take around 1.5 hours on the trail. The Pererov–Białowieża National Park cycling route is 45 km long. The 10-km route taking around 1.5 hours and the 45-km route represent different route formats when planning your days. Culture

The Tsar’s Meadow lies in the vicinity of Makovišča. It is a forest clearing that has existed for several centuries and is historically associated with a hunting festival held by the Polish-Lithuanian king Stanisław August Poniatowski. Mass events and festivals are held there today. The Pererov–Białowieża National Park cycling route passes Lyadskoje Lake and Tsar’s Road; both are listed as attractions along the route.

On site

The “Беловежская пуща” restaurant offers Belarusian and European cuisine, as well as a wide selection of specialities made with game, berries and mushrooms. The “Деревенский рай” estate offers bicycle rental. Its grounds include a children’s complex and a sports field.

At “Домик в Пуще”, guests with pool tariffs have access to a heated outdoor pool with a diameter of 5.5 m and a water temperature of 26 °C; it operates from 1 June to 15 September. On request and for groups of two or more, excursions to the Wild Swamp and individual tours of the nature reserve with an experienced guide can be organised there.

The “Деревенский рай” estate is located at the edge of the forest; the official entrance to Białowieża Puscha National Park is 7 km from the estate. In the vicinity of Makovišča, the national park is served by minibuses and buses on the Brest–Kamenets–Kamenyuki route.
