Discover Schattendorf: Trails, Culture and Warmbad
Schattendorf combines a variety of trails with cultural and historical discoveries and unique water experiences. If you are looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home, you can plan your trip around whether long bike tours, short cultural trails, nature observation or a stay at Warmbad should be the main focus.
Trails for Active and Enjoyable Days
The B30 “Koglweg” cycle path is 34 kilometres long and almost entirely paved. At a water reservoir, there is a rest area with panoramic views of Klingenbach, the Leitha Mountains and the provincial capital Eisenstadt. This makes the route ideal for a longer bike tour, with a stop offering expansive views.
On foot, the approximately 9-kilometre Wine & Herb Trail follows a circular route through Schattendorf. The walking time alone is about 2.5 hours, and the trail starts at the Schuh Mill. At the “Grimmingkreuz” on the Krippelberg, you can sample regional wines and grape juices from the “Wine Treasure Chest” by prior arrangement. At the “Teichwiesen” station, you can also learn about the nature park, a species-rich bird sanctuary and its valuable plant life.
Culture and History Along the Way
The approximately 2.5-kilometre Kultur.Geschichten.Weg is a circular route to cultural and historical sites and attractions in Schattendorf. Its stops include a Roman tomb in the church wall and the St. John of Nepomuk Chapel. The manageable route length makes it easy to include as a separate cultural walk in your daily plans.
The Archäologie.Wander.Weg also combines exercise with regional history. One stop in Hadspitzwald introduces visitors to burial customs from the older Iron Age and shows the plan of the burial mound cemetery. On the way back, the trail leads to the Schuh Mill. There, the “8,000 Years of Schattendorf” exhibition displays and describes finds from the archaeological sites visited earlier.
Another historical perspective is offered by the cross-border circular hiking trail along the Green Belt. In Schattendorf, a boundary stone with an information panel provides information about the European Green Belt, the periods of division, and the region’s natural environment and history.
Water Experiences and Flexible Daily Planning
For a stay featuring water-based activities, Warmbad Schattendorf has heated pools and a water slide. This allows you to choose accommodation according to your preferred daily rhythm: A visit to Warmbad can follow a trail or cultural discovery, without having to dedicate your entire holiday to just one activity.
Getting Here by Public Transport
The Burgenland shared-call taxi service “BAST” can be booked by telephone. During operating hours, it travels between stops and to and from public transport stops if no scheduled bus runs 30 minutes before or after the requested departure time. When planning your journey, you should therefore take the desired connection and booking time into account.
Visits by Prior Arrangement
The Schuh Mill and the 1927 exhibition can be visited at any time by prior arrangement. Anyone interested in the history of the town can combine this visit with the Wine & Herb Trail or the Archäologie.Wander.Weg.
