Landscape Art with Panoramic Views

The Octahedron is an 8.5-metre-high, walk-in art installation that also serves as an observation tower. Fourteen windows provide views as far as Lake Neusiedl in clear weather. Its location is also interesting when planning an excursion: the Octahedron lies directly on the B32 cycle path, a 58.87-kilometre cycling route that passes through Sigleß.

The Himmelstreppe is situated on a hilltop and is a landscape art project offering views as far as Lake Neusiedl. It was created in 1991/92 as the artist Heinz Bruckschwaiger’s first landscape artwork. The Hexenhügel cycle trail runs directly past the Himmelstreppe. This makes it possible to combine art and cycling in a single excursion, without limiting the area to just one type of holiday.

The Zeitstuhl is also located on a hilltop east of Sigleß and offers panoramic views towards Lake Neusiedl. This landscape project includes a spiral-shaped path. At the top of the 2.5-metre-high hill stands a sundial facing south. Anyone wishing to discover different forms of landscape art during a trip will find distinctive motifs and perspectives here.

Cycle Paths and Natural Surroundings

The well-maintained farm tracks around Sigleß are ideal for extended walks and cycling tours. The approximately 87-kilometre Eulenweg trail leads through Rosalia-Kogelberg Nature Park and through Sigleß; it is signposted in both directions. The protected nature park is therefore just as much a point of orientation as the specific paths themselves.

The Siebenweidenkreis landscape project borders biotope areas that have remained untouched for many years and includes a pond fed by groundwater. The Old Linden Tree in Sigleß is designated as a natural monument. Such destinations complement the larger cycling and hiking routes with smaller opportunities for observing nature. The Sigleß Climate Garden is located at the vineyard opposite the church, or north of the cemetery, and provides another fixed point of orientation in the village.

Culture, History and Regional Dining

Historical features include the Olram Cross, a wayside shrine in the form of a tabernacle pillar dating from 1630, and the Marienkapelle, a small gabled building from the second half of the 19th century. The Olram Cross is easily accessible from the Hexenhügel cycle trail. The parish church of Sigleß was consecrated on All Saints’ Day in 1733 and is therefore called the All Saints’ Church. The Sacrament Trail was built in 2006/2007.

Since 2007, numerous graves have been uncovered during annual excavation campaigns in Sigleß’s Kloaschitzwald forest, most of them dating from the Late Avar–Carolingian period. This historical trace provides a different accent from the contemporary landscape projects. Those travelling with different age groups can thereby create a varied holiday combining exercise, art, nature and history, without having to force all experiences into a single programme.

Sigleß’s regional offering also includes two wine taverns. The Genussheuriger run by Winegrowing Lassl serves seasonally changing cold dishes, various breads and homemade spreads. The Buschenschank operated by Heuriger Glauber offers wine and a snack platter. Swimming courses for non-swimmers are held every year at Sigleß outdoor pool.
