Tushemisht lies on the western shore of Lake Pogradec. The village features a townscape of centuries-old houses, while the shoreline of Lake Ohrid between Lin and Tushemisht offers numerous visitor attractions and a landscape between lake and mountains. By the lake

Drilon, near the tourist village of Tushemisht, is a karst spring consisting of three watercourses. Drilon is also part of the protected national park in the Albanian section of Lake Ohrid. Tushemisht has a total of 15 churches, four of which are cultural monuments.

Culinary heritage

In addition to textiles and toys, the handicraft market also offers traditionally produced food. This includes trahana, peta, various jams, pickled vegetables, vinegar, raki and wine. Tushemisht is one of the villages on Lake Ohrid where koran fish is prepared. Koran fish casserole is part of the intangible cultural heritage.

Trails and activities

The Tushemisht–Peshkëpi hiking trail covers an approximately two-hour walk from Tushemisht to Peshkëpi. Along the way, the trail offers views of Lake Ohrid, Tushemisht and Mali i Thatë. The 11.5-kilometer route of the International “Enkelana” Marathon also passes through Tushemisht as a mini-marathon. A cycling tour ran from Drilon in the direction of Tushemisht.

Nature

A karst cave from which a clear karst spring emerges is one of dozens of springs that supply Lake Ohrid with water. As a result, several characteristic landscape elements come together around Tushemisht: the lake, the karst springs and the mountain panorama visible along the shoreline between Lin and Tushemisht.

Getting to the village

Sallkëni i Tushemishtit can be reached by bus or car as far as the village entrance. From there to the area below the village church, access is possible only by a small car or on foot. It is possible to drive by car, minibus or a bus with more than 30 seats to the vicinity of the customs point; from there, continue on foot to the cave.
