Jinning: War History, Routes and Nature
Accommodation in Jinning
Jinning offers two distinct perspectives for planning a trip: the military history of the Guningtou Battle Museum and the nature themes around Shuangli Lake. Other travel themes include suggested routes connecting several named stops. When deciding what you want your holiday in a Jinning rental to focus on, history, routes and the lake can each play a different role.
The Guningtou Battle Museum and its history
The Guningtou Battle Museum was built in the style of an old castle. Its exhibits include captured war materiel, war documents and photographs of distinguished commanders; twelve large-scale paintings depict the course of the Battle of Guningtou. The exhibition takes visitors from individual objects and documents to large-scale depictions of the battle. Following renovation work, the museum reopened to the public in October 2024; the immersive multimedia theatre “印象金戰.1949” was also introduced at that time. If you plan a visit, check the latest access information in advance.
Suggested routes and historical stops
The suggested Jinning Township War History Route begins at the Youth Activity Center and passes through Xiputou, the General Li Guang-qian Temple and the Lin Residence before reaching the Guningtou Battle Museum. It then continues to the Beishan Embankment, Nanshan Path, Shuangli Wetlands Nature Center, Cihu Observatory Deck, Huxia Embankment and Xiaopuxia. The route lists the exit of the Jincheng Tunnels and Jincheng Station as its endpoints. Stops marked with an asterisk are detours. This itinerary brings many stops together into a suggested route; as route conditions can change, check its course before setting out.
A suggested cycling route passes the Beishan Broadcasting Wall and Beishan Cliff. The Broadcasting Wall was used for psychological warfare during the military period. News and propaganda were broadcast from it in Mandarin and Taiwanese Hokkien. This place is therefore connected not only with a historical military use, but also with the languages in which the messages of that time were disseminated.
Another option is the suggested Guningtou electric vehicle tour. It connects the Guningtou Battle Museum, Beishan Broadcasting Wall, Beishan Embankment, Nanshan settlement, Shuangli Wetlands Nature Center and Shuangli Lake. The tour also passes a wind lion, the Three-Eyed Well and the Gulongtou Water-Tail Tower. Check with the operator before travelling to confirm whether the tour is currently available.
Shuangli Lake as a nature theme
Shuangli Lake lies between the villages of South and Beishan in Jinning Township. Its abundant aquatic plants provide waterbirds with habitat and food. This makes it a nature area, distinct from the historical exhibits and the former military use of the Broadcasting Wall. For travellers particularly interested in plants and waterbirds, the lake offers a separate thematic focus.
Plan your stay around your interests
When choosing a holiday rental in Jinning, selecting a theme can be a useful starting point: should the trip focus primarily on the history of the museum and Broadcasting Wall, centre on a suggested route, or include the natural environment around Shuangli Lake? The route, museum and lake each represent a different focus for planning a trip.
