Buyeo-gun combines a distinctive river landscape with sites commemorating the Baekje period. The 106-metre-high Busosan Mountain rises from the plain, while the Baekma River borders its eastern and northern sides. Temple complexes, a fortress and a museum offer different ways to explore the history of the Sabi period. When planning your trip, you can therefore decide whether to focus on landscapes and water or on archaeological and cultural discoveries.

Mountain, River and Views

Busosan Mountain rises from the plain and meets the Baekma River to the east and north. Busosanseong Fortress on Busosan Mountain is also designated Historic Site No. 5. The landscape brings together the plain, higher ground and riverbank. If you are interested in the combination of nature and cultural heritage, the mountain offers a tangible point of connection between the two.

The boat on the Baekma River offers a special view of the Nakhwaam cliff: it is particularly easy to see from the water. Sightseeing cruises on the river were offered from the Gudurae, Goransa and Subukjeong piers. Check whether a cruise is currently available before planning your trip. Canoe and yacht experience courses beneath the Baekmagang Bridge were offered annually from June to October; you should also check the current dates in advance. The activities offer different experiences: sightseeing cruises focus on views of Nakhwaam, while the courses offer an experience on a canoe or yacht.

Baekje History at Temple Complexes and in the Museum

Neungsan-ri Temple Site was a royal temple established after Baekje moved its capital to Sabi. Neungsa is another name for the site. It lies in a valley between the Naseong Fortress wall and the royal tombs of Buyeo. This setting connects the temple complex with two other named features of the historic landscape.

During the second excavation of the temple complex in 1993, the gilt-bronze incense burner of Baekje was unearthed. It is listed as National Treasure No. 287. The find links the site to a specific archaeological artefact. Buyeo National Museum specialises in the research, study and preservation of Baekje culture from the Sabi period, 538–660, offering another way to explore this era.

Another archaeological subject is the Chiljido, a seven-branched sword excavated at Gunsu-ri Temple Site. In connection with a similar sword in Japan, it is considered one aspect of cultural exchange between Baekje and Japan. This interpretation is thus tied to the comparison between the two swords.

Choose Your Trip and Holiday Rental Based on Your Interests

When searching for a holiday rental in Buyeo-gun, you can start by considering what you want your trip to focus on: the river landscape, views of Nakhwaam and water activities, or Baekje history, with its temple complexes, finds and museum. This priority can guide your planning without requiring you to choose just one theme. If you want to explore both, take both interests into account when choosing your accommodation.
