Curicó: Hiking Trails, Lakes, and Culture
Accommodation in Curicó
Curicó offers a variety of discoveries: in the Radal Siete Tazas area, hiking trails wind through a landscape with remarkable biodiversity; at Laguna Torca, a system of lakes and diverse birdlife shape the natural experience. There are also crafts, historic buildings, and living traditions. Which of these aspects interests you most can help guide your choice of location for a vacation rental.
Hiking trails with varying levels of difficulty
The Reserva Nacional Radal Siete Tazas is located in Molina, in the Province of Curicó, and was reclassified as a national park on March 27, 2008. The Siete Tazas–Salto de la Leona trail is 1.5 kilometers long, is considered easy, and takes about one hour round trip. This makes it easy to factor a specific, manageable-length trail into your day’s plans. Native wildlife such as pumas, kodkods, pampas cats, and pudús can be found in Parque Nacional Radal Siete Tazas in the Maule Region.
Other hiking trails described here vary in length and difficulty. Árbol Gigante is 1.4 kilometers long, is considered easy, and takes about 45 minutes. The Achupalla trail is 6 kilometers long, takes about 2.5 hours, and is of moderate difficulty. La Duna, at 10 kilometers, about four hours, and a challenging level, is another option. These details clearly show how the trails differ: you can take their length, approximate duration, and stated difficulty into account beforehand, without assuming that they all require the same level of effort.
Laguna Torca and its birdlife
The Reserva Nacional Laguna Torca has hiking trails and an environmental information center with a photo exhibition about local birdlife. More than 90 bird species can be found at Laguna Torca, including the black-necked swan (Cygnus melancoryphus), osprey (Pandion haliaetus), Plegadis chihi, and coscoroba swan (Coscoroba coscoroba). For nature lovers, birdlife is a focus in its own right here; the information center and photo exhibition also explore this subject.
The Reserva Nacional Laguna Torca is part of a system of lakes that includes Laguna Torca, Lago Vichuquén, and Laguna de Agua Dulce. The latter has no surface outlet. This feature distinguishes it within the lake system described and adds a specific characteristic of its waters to the picture of the landscape.
Traditions, crafts, and local history
In Lora, in the municipality of Licantén, the Baile de Negros takes place on the third Sunday of every October. This expression of popular religious devotion involves a ritual group paying homage to the Virgin of the Rosary through music and dancing. In 2011, the Baile de los Negros de Lora was recognized as a Tesoro Humano Vivo by the Consejo Nacional de la Cultura y las Artes and UNESCO. Those interested in local traditions can experience a celebration with a clearly defined religious and cultural character here.
Pueblo de Vichuquén is designated a Zona Típica. Its layout is informal and includes two parallel streets and three cross streets. Visitors can meet artisans there who make white ceramic vessels, woven textiles, items from plant fibers, and carved figures and household objects. In Curicó itself, the Kiosco Cívico de la Plaza de Armas is designated a Monumento Histórico. Built entirely of metal, it combines cast iron and wrought iron.
More travel interests
In the Valles del Maule y Curicó travel area, visitors will find various wineries offering tours and tastings, as well as dining options.
