Araguaína has many different sides: at Eco Parque Cimba, leisure meets the city’s history; at Lago Azul, water activities take centre stage; and local traditions shape the cultural landscape. When planning your trip, you can think about which experiences matter most to you—a walk, insights into industrial history or time by the water.

Park paths and traces of the city’s history

Eco Parque Cimba “Benedito Vicente Ferreira” is Araguaína’s first city park and is used for sport and leisure. The park has separate cycle and walking paths, each 1.2 km long. If you prefer to get around on foot, you can choose the walking path; if you’re planning a bike ride, there is a separate path of the same stated length. The two paths make the park appealing for different kinds of active leisure, so you don’t have to plan around just one way of getting active.

Part of Parque Cimba’s character also comes from its industrial history: the ruins of Companhia Industrial e Mercantil da Bacia Amazônica (Cimba) have been preserved there. The company was Araguaína’s first industrial enterprise. If you’re interested in the city’s development, you can take in the ruins as a historical feature alongside the park’s present-day use. The leisure park and industrial remnants thus offer two different perspectives on the same named place: spending time in green surroundings today and remembering an early industrial establishment.

Water activities at Lago Azul

Prainha da Via Lago at Lago Azul offers a different kind of experience. It is open for bathing and water-based leisure activities, including swimming and diving. The activities mentioned here are clearly different from those available on the paths at Eco Parque Cimba: here, the focus is on water activities; there, on cycling, walking and leisure in a city park. When planning your stay in Araguaína, you can weigh up these interests and decide which experiences appeal to you most.

Local traditions and culture

The Cavalgada de Araguaína is an annual local tradition. Around 5,000 horse riders take part in Comitivas. This approximate figure gives an idea of the event’s scale, with the Comitivas being an explicit part of the tradition. The route planned for the 2026 Cavalgada was to start in front of the former Posto Paulista on Avenida Bernardo Sayão. It was to continue along Avenida Cônego João Lima, Avenida Prefeito João de Sousa Lima, past Feirinha and along Avenida Filadélfia, ending at Parque de Exposições Dair José Lourenço. This planned route describes the proposed course for the 2026 edition.

São João do Cerrado is also a cultural tradition in Araguaína, and is reaching its 25th edition. The 25th edition at Parque Cimba featured cultural performances, June festival competitions and musical shows. São João do Cerrado 2026 at Parque Cimba also had a food area and leisure areas for the whole family. These specific programme features give an idea of the cultural and community aspects of the place associated with the festival.
