Holambra combines the history of Dutch immigration with flower production and a wide range of ways to explore the town. Moinho Povos Unidos brings the town and its production fields into view from above; guided tours take visitors through the fields, while museums and parks appeal to other interests. For a trip with children, these different themes can provide a good basis for deciding together which experiences will shape your stay.

Windmill, Views and Flower Fields

Moinho Povos Unidos has five themed floors open to visitors. At approximately 38 metres tall, the windmill is also a landmark destination for anyone who wants to see Holambra from above. Its viewpoint offers a privileged bird’s-eye view of the “Capital Nacional das Flores” and the production fields. A visit therefore focuses both on the themed floors and on views of the town and its flower cultivation.

The production fields can also be explored as part of the “Flores que decoram o Brasil” tourist experience, which offers guided tours through Holambra’s fields throughout the year. The experience also includes specialist flower markets for retail customers, where visitors can buy flowers from Holambra to take home. Those with a particular interest in flowers can therefore learn about cultivation on a guided tour and also buy flowers on site.

Dutch History and an Annual Flower Festival

The Museu Histórico da Imigração tells the story of the first Dutch immigrants: from a Netherlands devastated by the Second World War to Fazenda Ribeirão, where the Holambra community was founded. The museum thus offers a historical perspective on the origins of the community. For families who want to learn about a place’s history as well as go on excursions, this visit is quite different from the floral experiences around the production fields.

Another cultural highlight is Expoflora, a Dutch flower festival held annually in Holambra. As a recurring festival, it is distinct from the guided field tours offered throughout the year. Holambra therefore offers two different ways to experience flowers: an annual festival and tours through the production fields. No specific event date is given here; its annual schedule is the key distinction for travel planning.

Art, Exercise and Outdoor Routes

On the shore of Lago do Holandês lies Parque Van Gogh, an arts and leisure centre inspired by Vincent van Gogh. The park adds art and leisure to Holambra’s flower and history themes. Families planning a trip with children can take everyone’s different interests into account without centring every outing on a single theme.

Parque Cidade das Crianças offers a lagoon, a skate park, outdoor fitness equipment and a 1.5-kilometre walking path. Each feature offers something different: the path is ideal for a walk in the park, while the skate park and fitness equipment put exercise centre stage. The lagoon is another feature of the park. Together, these facilities offer several different ways to spend time outdoors.

Rota das Flores also appeals to active visitors. It is a 14-kilometre paved route in Holambra, intended to encourage cyclists and motorists to share it harmoniously. Its length and shared-use purpose make it a distinct way to incorporate cycling or driving into your trip. Unlike the 1.5-kilometre walking path in Parque Cidade das Crianças, this is a longer route designed for two types of traffic.

Choose the Right Focus for Your Stay

When choosing a holiday rental in Holambra, start with the kind of trip you have in mind: would you like to experience flower production and views from the windmill, explore the history of Dutch immigration, or plan for art and outdoor activities? The options described offer different experiences that you can prioritise according to your travel group’s interests. Holambra offers more than one way to experience its Dutch heritage and flower fields.
