Braúna can be explored through specific places and diverse cultural connections: a square with its original design preserved, a mural bringing together Indigenous tradition and football, and Aldeia Icatu within the municipality. These themes lead from the design of public spaces to stories and cultural insights. They offer different starting points for deciding what you would like to shape your stay.

Squares and local history

During the renovation of Praça José Ramos da Silva, the original layout of the flowerbeds and walkway was preserved. The square is beside Matriz de São Sebastião, a church dedicated to Saint Sebastian, who is considered the municipality’s patron saint. This brings the design of the square and the municipality’s religious history together in one place.

The program marking the 70th anniversary of Braúna’s political emancipation took place on the Calçadão in front of Matriz. The occasion connects the church with a specific moment in the municipality’s history: the anniversary program was held there in January 2023. Those interested in local history can thus find not only the square’s enduring layout but also a historical connection to this public space.

The mural: Indigenous tradition and football

At the Municipal Stadium “João Ramos da Silva,” André Luiz Mortari and Yuri Evaristo created a large mural honoring Braúna’s culture. It is inspired by Indigenous tradition and football. Its prominent central image is the face of Maria Rosa, who is considered a historical figure associated with Aldeia Icatu. Sport and cultural memory stand side by side, while the portrait gives the mural a specific connection to a person and to the history of the village.

Aldeia Icatu, also within the municipality of Braúna, offers another way to explore cultural themes. It welcomes visitors throughout the year; visit arrangements should be coordinated with the community. Cultural items presented there include bows and arrows, blowguns, and rattles. During a visit by a group of children organized by the Social Administration on July 23, 2026, a hike along the Trilha Ecológica do Icatu within the protected area was part of the program.

Icatu Indigenous Territory is located in the municipality of Braúna, in the state of São Paulo, and covers 301 hectares. The Kaingang, Terena, Krenak, Guarani Nhandewa, and Guarani Kaiowá peoples are associated with the territory. Visits to Icatu Indigenous Territory require advance arrangements. This is an important distinction when planning: a visit should be coordinated in advance rather than treated as a spontaneous activity.

The connection between Aldeia Icatu and culture is also reflected in an intercultural project run by the Federal Institute of São Paulo (IFSP) in 2024. It included discussion circles, literary discussion circles, workshops on traditional knowledge, film screenings, and technical visits to the village. These examples describe a project from that time and complement the cultural items presented at Aldeia with other forms of exchange.

Events and regional orientation

Two concerts were scheduled at the Municipal Events Center “Chiquito Cortez” for the 34th Festa do Peão de Braúna: João Bosco e Vinícius on April 10, 2026, and Bruna Viola on April 11. Both dates have passed and offer a glimpse of that edition’s program, not an upcoming event schedule.

Braúna is part of the Tietê Vivo tourism region. Within the municipality, traffic mainly uses SP-425, which crosses the area and is the main connection to neighboring municipalities. When choosing a vacation rental, you can therefore first consider whether you would like to focus your stay more on Braúna’s squares and cultural themes or on a visit to Icatu arranged in advance.
