Turvo: Rock Formations, Agriculture and History
Accommodation in Turvo
Turvo brings together striking rock formations, rural agriculture and a history rooted in the local community. At Três Marias, outdoor activity and nature experiences take centre stage; at Recanto das Pitayas, visitors can learn about pitaya cultivation and local production. A museum and chapel add a historical dimension. These different highlights give you several ways to shape your stay.
From the BR-101, Turvo can be reached via the SC-285. When looking for a holiday rental or holiday home, you can consider whether you would like your days to focus more on time outdoors, insights into agriculture or historic sites.
Rock Formations and Geological History
Três Marias is a group of large rocks on a wooded hill. Their arrangement looks like three stones standing together, giving the formation its distinctive appearance. The site is suitable for hiking, picnicking and rappelling; there is also a spring and a small waterfall. This combines activity among the rocks with a nature experience centred on water. Check the current access conditions before visiting.
The Geossítio Morro Pelado is also located in the region of the municipality of Turvo, in Santa Catarina, and is an important geomorphological landmark. This approximately 220-metre-high plateau outlier consists of sedimentary rocks from the Rio do Rastro (Lower Triassic) and Botucatu (Jurassic–Cretaceous) formations. It illustrates the retreat of the plateau escarpment towards the coastal plain. Alongside the rock formations of Três Marias, it offers a perspective on the geological development of the landscape.
Rural Tourism and Regional Produce
Rural tourism is the focus at Recanto das Pitayas. Visitors can learn about pitaya cultivation, find out about local agricultural production and sample fresh produce directly from the producer. Unlike an outing focused on hiking or rocks, this experience is about cultivation, production and flavour. If you would like to include it in your plans, check in advance when visits are possible.
History at the Museum and Chapel
The Museu Histórico Lourenço Manenti is housed in a building that was protected as a historic heritage site of the municipality under Municipal Law No. 607/84 of 29 November 1984. The museum and the protected building are therefore brought together in one place.
In the centre of Turvo, next to the Igreja Matriz, stands the Capela de Madre Gertrudes. It tells the story of Madre Gertrudes and the miracle associated with her beatification. While the protected building gives the museum its historical significance, the chapel focuses on religious history.
Events and Nearby Places
The Arrancada Catarinense de Tratores took place in August during the Festa do Colono. The Festa do Colono itself is held every two years. If an event is going to influence your travel dates, check the dates and programme in advance.
Near Turvo, Gruta Nossa Senhora de Lourdes lies in the border area between the municipalities of Turvo and Meleiro. The faithful and other religious visitors come here to visit, make vows and pray. Its religious character sets this place apart from Turvo’s experiences of rock formations and agriculture.
The headquarters of CTG Vale da Amizade is on the SC-448, along the access route to the municipality of Meleiro, in a remnant of Atlantic Forest at the foot of Morro da Boa Vista. Its location describes both a section of Atlantic Forest and its connection to the mountain and the route to Meleiro.
