Nova Prata: Stone, Culture and Experiences

Nova Prata is located in the Serra Gaúcha and the Região Uva e Vinho, and is also part of the Termas e Longevidade tourist route. Nova Prata’s religious route invites visitors to discover the history and heritage of immigrants through religious buildings. It includes 17 places to visit, among them centuries-old wooden chapels, brick chapels, Capitéis, a grotto and a stone church. The contrast between wood and masonry, the grotto and the stone church illustrates the variety of stops. Some locations may require an appointment.

The Historic Quarries Route is separate from this. It includes Capela São Peregrino, also known as Igreja de Pedra. Visits to the chapel are by appointment only; arrange your visit in advance.

The Museu Municipal Domingos Battistel welcomes visitors Tuesday through Friday, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1:30 to 5:00 p.m. Evening and weekend visits are by appointment only. Check the opening hours before traveling and take the visiting hours into account when planning.

Casa Polonesa is a historic and cultural building in Nova Prata. This traditional Polish wooden house, built in the Zakopane style, was constructed entirely with wooden joints and screws, without nails. Alongside its cultural significance, the house’s distinctive construction is also worth noting.

Experiences in the Municipality

In the rural part of the municipality, the Trilha Ecológica Recantos da Natureza is located in Linha José Bonifácio. There are opportunities to hike or rappel there. The municipality also offers the chance to explore basalt quarries. So, alongside religious architecture and cultural history, visitors can choose nature activities and insights into the basalt landscape.

At Propriedade Antonio Baccarin, visitors can experience growing and harvesting practices; organic products have been grown there since 1999. This agricultural focus differs from the activities on the hiking trail. The Complexo Hidrotermal Caldas de Prata has outdoor and covered pools, supplied by water that flows out at 41°C. Check operating details before you travel. Planning can therefore cater to different interests: getting active on the hiking trail, learning about growing and harvesting, or spending time at the thermal pools.

Cultural Program and Trip Planning

The city tour of Nova Prata includes, among other places, Igreja Matriz, Museu Municipal, Praça da Bandeira with the Monumento ao Imigrante, Casa do Artesão, Casa da Cultura, Gruta Nossa Senhora de Lourdes and Viveiro Municipal. The program also includes Casa Polonesa, an experience at Canto Flora, Igreja de Pedra, and a visit with tasting at Cervejaria Solerum.
