Flores Da Cunha
Accommodation in Flores Da Cunha
Wine, historic buildings and nature shape the ways to explore Flores Da Cunha. The Rota dos Vinhos dos Altos Montes runs through Flores da Cunha and Nova Pádua; there is also a 4 km-long trail with viewpoints over the Rio das Antas and places with a distinctive history. When choosing your vacation rental, consider whether wine and cuisine, culture or walks will define your stay.
Wine and Menarosto
The Rota dos Vinhos dos Altos Montes includes eleven wineries in Flores da Cunha and Nova Pádua. They are Vinhos Boscato, Casa Venturini, Coop. Nova Aliança, Fabian, Fante, Luiz Argenta, Vinícola Mioranza, Panizzon, Terrasul, Valdemiz and Viapiana. The wineries welcome visitors for tours of their facilities and tastings; wines, sparkling wines and other products can also be purchased there. If you want wine and regional products to be a focus of your stay, the route offers a specific theme to start with. Since it covers two municipalities, the location of your accommodation is also worth considering if you plan to follow this theme.
Menarosto has a place in the city’s culinary identity and has been the official typical dish of Flores da Cunha since August 10, 2010. It is prepared by slowly turning the meat over embers, without direct contact with flames or smoke. This method is a distinctive detail of the local food culture: the heat comes from embers, not flames. If you are interested in regional cuisine, you can make Menarosto a focus in its own right alongside the wines.
Buildings and local history
The building of the Museu e Arquivo Histórico Pedro Rossi is a historic and architectural landmark in Flores da Cunha. It was built in the Art Deco style between 1943 and 1945 and inaugurated in 1946. Another distinctive building is the Campanário da Igreja Matriz de Flores da Cunha: its construction began in 1946, and its restoration and redesign were inaugurated in 2023. These dates refer to different phases of construction and bring the history of each building to life.
The Casarão dos Veronese is a historically significant building recognized for its cultural value in Otávio Rocha, a district of Flores da Cunha. In the municipality of São Martinho, Travessão Martins, the Campo Santo dos Imigrantes preserves 13 hand-forged iron crosses and the grave of pioneer Domenico Caldart, surrounded by a traditional stone wall. The Eremitério Frei Salvador is the traditional setting for the Romaria a Frei Salvador, held annually on Corpus Christi and attended by thousands of people. These places offer different ways to engage with architectural history, remembrance and religious tradition.
Waterfalls, views and trails
For a walk with a clearly stated distance, consider Vista do Rio das Antas: the trail is 4 km long and leads to three viewpoints overlooking the Rio das Antas, including a view of a bend in the river. Take the full trail distance into account when planning your day. Another natural highlight is Parque da Gruta, a tourist attraction with a natural grotto and a 25-meter-high waterfall. Parque Natural São Francisco de Assis is a public nature park. It was established on October 28, 2009, to promote the protection of abiotic and biotic factors, environmental education and scientific studies.
At Cascata da Usina, a trail leads to a waterfall and a clear pool. The property is private and accessible only by prior appointment, so plan a visit only after making the necessary arrangements. The contrast between the 4 km walk with several viewpoints and this appointment-only access may factor into planning your outings. Another perspective can be enjoyed at Parque da Vindima Eloy Kunz: situated on a hill, it offers a panoramic view of the city center.
Route and events
The Roteiro Caminhos da Colônia is a rural route connecting Caxias do Sul and Flores da Cunha. It reaches Flores da Cunha and returns to Caxias do Sul via the RS-122. If you are also planning to travel between the two cities, this route provides a clear guide to the journey without combining the individual sights into a single itinerary.
Various trade fairs are held at Parque da Vindima Eloy Kunz, including Mostra Flores and Feira de Inverno. The Festa Nacional da Vindima is also celebrated there, a festival honoring grapes, wine and winegrowers. These events add a distinct festival and trade-fair dimension to the city’s connection with wine.
