Alto Taquari: Water and Festive Traditions
Accommodation in Alto Taquari
Alto Taquari has many sides: a large body of water, rapids and waterfalls on the Rio Taquari, and a festive culture that is central to the city anniversary. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus mainly on the lake and river landscape or on local festivals and traditions. Both offer a concrete sense of what makes the place distinctive.
Lake and River Landscape
The lake at the Complexo do Parque Taquari covers an area of more than 33 hectares. Small boats such as speedboats, jet skis and kayaks can be used on it. These craft range from motorized water vehicles to kayaks, showing that the lake lends itself to different ways of getting around. If water is important to your trip, this variety offers a useful starting point for considering which experiences interest you.
Another aspect of the waterscape is the Rio Taquari in Alto Taquari, which has rapids and waterfalls. As a geographical reference point, the Rio Taquari flows south into the Río de la Plata Basin, while the Rio Araguaia flows north into the Amazon Basin. The rivers’ opposing directions of flow make them a striking feature of the region’s geography. The lake and river represent different aspects of the nature around Alto Taquari.
Festivals, Gatherings and Local Traditions
Expotaquari represents local culture and brings together families from Alto Taquari and visitors. The 29th Expotaquari was officially opened on May 14 at Parque de Exposições Antônio Buscariol. Festa de Maio is also part of the city anniversary: this traditional festival includes civic and cultural activities as well as shows. For families who enjoy discovering culture and community events, these festivals offer different insights into life in the town.
The Missa Sertaneja is one of the traditions observed during the anniversary celebrations. During the festivities, a Cavalgada set off from the Sindicato Rural and proceeded through the city streets. A traditional Costelão was also served as part of an anniversary program. Together, these examples show different facets of the festive culture: a religious tradition, a horseback procession and a communal meal. Festa de Peão is another traditional festival in Alto Taquari. It features shows, auctions, rodeos, markets, handicraft exhibitions and typical foods.
Sporting events also shape some experiences in the town. The Torneio de Vôlei de Praia took place at Praia 1 on Lago Municipal and brought athletes and spectators to Alto Taquari. It is a concrete example of how, alongside the festivals, a sporting event by the water was part of the local events calendar.
A prominent landmark in town is the Igreja Católica Matriz “Paróquia São José”. It stands opposite the town square and was built in 1989. Its location by the square makes it a clearly identifiable part of the townscape and adds a cultural landmark to impressions of the lake, river and festivals.
