In the Department of Constitución, protected nature on Isla del Sol, river and cultural activities in Villa Constitución, and religious history in Oratorio Morante come together. These different highlights make the region an interesting choice if you do not want to plan your trip around just one type of experience. When looking for a holiday rental in Constitución, it is worth first considering whether you want to focus mainly on nature, the municipality’s attractions or historic sites.

Isla del Sol: Wetlands and railway history

The Isla del Sol Nature Reserve is a protected natural area in Villa Constitución. Its natural value comes from its place within the Río Paraná wetland system and the diversity of its native flora and fauna. Guided visits are generally open to the public and are free of charge by prior arrangement. This gives you the opportunity to combine your stay with a guided visit to the natural area if this kind of nature experience interests you.

There is also a structure on Isla del Sol that tells part of the area’s history: the historic railway branch is 1,800 metres long and forms an embankment built by the English in 1931. Here, the natural area and railway construction stand side by side as different aspects of the same island. If you are interested in the landscape and regional history, these offer two concrete starting points for planning your trip.

Culture and religious tradition in Oratorio Morante

The Oratorio Morante Chapel was built in the 18th century and is part of the Camino Real. Villa Constitución’s tourist attractions also include a religious route featuring the historic Oratorio Morante. A special occasion is the Feast of Our Lady of Remedies, held at Oratorio Morante every second Sunday in September. It includes a mass, a procession and a parade of traditional groups. If you are interested in religious traditions, this event offers a clearly defined glimpse into local festive culture.

Oratorio Morante can be reached via the Buenos Aires–Rosario highway at kilometre 245, followed by the road heading west from Villa Constitución to Melincué; the access point is about 20 kilometres farther on. Bear this approximate distance in mind when planning your outing. This way, you can treat a visit to the area as a separate focus rather than conflating it with attractions in Villa Constitución.

River, beach and attractions in Villa Constitución

Villa Constitución has a public municipal beach with free access. The municipality also has a river access point on the Río Paraná at buoy 366. These are two different ways to include the river in your trip: a visit to the municipal beach or access from the water. Another attraction is the Cilsa recreational area, which has a fitness trail.

Culture and discovery are also part of what the municipality has to offer. The Railway Museum and Railway Promenade complement Isla del Sol’s railway history with further local themes. For exploring the countryside, there are the routes “La Patria como Anfitrión, batallas de Pavón” and “Tierra de luchas Sociales, Grito de Alcorta.” A general store described as more than 90 years old is also among the rural attractions; there, you can sample local cuisine. You can also explore Arroyo del Medio to observe nature.

In Villa Constitución, Casa de la Cultura was declared part of the city’s cultural heritage on 20 August 2002. It offers workshops for children, young people and adults. Casa de la Cultura therefore brings together the history of an urban cultural venue and workshops for different generations.

Regional museums and choosing the right kind of trip

Local museums outside Villa Constitución also offer insight into regional history. In 2006, Alcorta had the Museo Comunal de Alcorta, a historical municipal museum. Also in 2006, General Gelly had the Museo de General Gelly, a historical, natural history and polythematic municipal museum. In the same year, Godoy had the Museo Local Godoy, a historical municipal museum, and Rueda had the Museo Ferroviario Escribano Alfredo Rueda, a historical and polythematic municipal museum.

When choosing your holiday rental, you can first decide what you want to focus on during your trip: Isla del Sol for protected nature and the historic embankment, Villa Constitución for the beach, river access and municipal attractions, and Oratorio Morante for the Camino Real and religious tradition. That way, you can begin your decision with the Constitución you want to discover.

For further orientation, you can also explore Maximo Paz. Other places at the same level: Department of San Lorenzo, General Obligado, Belgrano Department, San Martín Department, Department of La Capital, Department of Castellanos, Department of San Javier.
