Maipú Department: Wine, Olive Oil and Culture
Accommodation in Maipú Department
In Maipú Department, wine, olive oil and culture are among the defining discoveries. The wine route extends across the entire department; more than 40 wineries are open to tourism. There are also eight olive oil producers whose products can be enjoyed by tourists and locals alike. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can consider which of these highlights you would like to shape your trip.
Experience wineries and olive oil
At Bodegas López, the focus is on different production methods: visitors can observe the production of Federico López sparkling wines using the Champenoise method, as well as Montchenot, López and Mont Reims using the Charmat method. Model vineyards are also part of the offering. Bodegas López can be reached by Metrotranvía in about 30 minutes; the Gutiérrez stop is 300 meters from the winery.
Olivícola Laur offers another perspective on regional products, with guided tours of the vinegar cellar and olive oil production facilities. Specialist guides and sommeliers accompany these visits. When planning your trip, you can therefore take different interests into account, from wineries and winemaking to olive oil production, rather than reducing Maipú to a single product.
Museums, theaters and local heritage
The Museo del Vino at Bodegas La Rural in Maipú was declared of tourist interest in 1990. This is separate from the Museo Nacional del Vino y la Vendimia, which hosted the cultural program “Mitos Cuyanos.” By June 2026, the program had reached its third edition.
Cine Teatro Imperial Maipú is an Art Deco building dating from 1934. Following a heritage restoration, it reopened on June 6, 2013. Today, it hosts films, music, theater and other events; various live arts events are also held there every week. Paseo de los Eucaliptus is designated as cultural and forest heritage of Maipú Department.
You can also encounter public art along the promenade of Plaza 12 de Febrero: six sculptures of Mafalda and her friends stand there. They pay tribute to the character created by the Mendoza-born artist Quino. The plaza’s recreation area covers more than 2,000 square meters and has inclusive play equipment—an attraction of its own if you would like to include some time outdoors in your activities together.
Events and getting around
Maipú’s 2026 Vendimia calendar included twelve celebrations in the individual districts, leading up to the departmental Vendimia. The 2026 summer program also brought together a range of cultural and culinary themes: an event at Teatro Griego Papa Francisco gathered more than 30 wine and olive oil producers and offered tastings and talks. A music series there gave bands from Mendoza the chance to perform outdoors. This information relates to the 2026 program and does not describe a future event calendar.
To help you find your way around the department, Maipú’s municipal tourist map includes more than 200 points of interest spread across the area. If you would like to focus your search on specific places, you can also visit the pages for Maipú and Cruz De Piedra.
