María Grande offers a destination with many facets: the Termas de María Grande combine saltwater pools with an extensive area of native forest, while town squares, a historic cinema and local musical traditions offer more to discover. As you plan your trip, you can consider whether bathing, nature or culture should be the main focus – and choose María Grande as the location for your holiday rental search.

Hot Springs and Native Forest

The grounds of the Termas de María Grande cover 47 hectares of native forest that is about 200 years old and crossed by a ravine. This natural setting is as much a part of the complex as its pools. If you are particularly interested in bathing, you will find nine saltwater pools there. Three are covered, and the water temperatures range from 39 °C to 46.5 °C. The number of pools, their covered areas and the temperature range offer specific points to help you decide what to focus on during a visit.

The location of the Termas can also be described geographically: they are on Provincial Route No. 10, at the end of Avenida Argentina in María Grande. The forest and ravine describe another side of the hot springs complex beyond its pools – a distinct consideration for nature lovers deciding what appeals to them most about this destination.

Nature Trails and Green Surroundings

Paseo de la Cañada is a nature promenade along an old watercourse. Spring water and the town’s natural drainage create different biomes there. The surrounding area also includes a nearby barbecue area, which serves as a place to stop and enjoy grilled food. Visitors interested in this spot can therefore combine the promenade and its water-shaped natural setting with a designated place to take a break.

A nature reserve on the southern edge of María Grande showcases the native flora of the local forest and offers glimpses of its birdlife. This is a different focus from the forest grounds of the Termas: here, the emphasis is on plants and forest birds, while the ravine and saltwater pools are among the features described there. These differences can help you choose nature experiences according to your interests, without combining them into a single outing.

City History and Local Culture

María Grande’s town clock was built in 1949. It stands at the intersection of Avenidas Argentina, Córdoba and San Martín, on the eastern edge of the small square, and is considered a town landmark. Cine Teatro Don Santiago is designated as part of the town’s architectural, historical and cultural heritage. Its eclectic architectural style, along with its original ceiling, floors and boxes, are among the preserved features of the building.

The Museo Histórico Municipal is also dedicated to the town’s heritage: it was founded to preserve and safeguard the cultural, historical and institutional heritage of María Grande. Plaza Centenario, in turn, is a bright promenade between the former railway sheds. The clock, cinema, museum and square represent different themes – from a town landmark and architecture to history and public space.

The municipal amphitheater hosts peñas and performances. It is located in a leafy park with children’s play equipment, adding an explicitly family-friendly outdoor spot to the cultural attractions. The Tanguito Montielero is also important to María Grande’s musical tradition: September 20 was designated “Tanguito Montielero Day.” The relevant ordinance provides for the “Festival del Tanguito Montielero,” featuring live performances, talks at local educational institutions and other activities to promote the interpretation and appreciation of this musical style.
