Sea Lake combines art in town with striking landscapes in the surrounding area. The Silo Art, murals along the main street and Skymirror Gallery give the town a cultural touch; nearby Lake Tyrrell is particularly known for its reflective surface at sunrise and sunset. This gives you different ways to shape your stay around art and nature.

Art and Mallee scenes in Sea Lake

Sea Lake Silo Art is part of the Wimmera Mallee Silo Art Trail. The work depicts a young girl swinging from a Mallee eucalyptus tree and looking out towards Lake Tyrrell. The image brings together a specific figure, local plant life and the region’s landscape. The main street also reflects the town’s character: its murals depict local flora and scenes of Mallee life. If you’re travelling with family, the varied images offer conversation starters and details you can look out for together.

Another place to find art is Skymirror Gallery. Opened in March 2018, it displays works ranging from traditional landscape photography to fine art. At the GrainCorp silos in Sea Lake, there is also a nighttime cinematic projection about agriculture, nature and astronomy in the Mallee. You’ll encounter different artistic perspectives: painted images in public spaces, works in a gallery and a projection on the silos.

Getting around and excursions near Sea Lake

The Sea Lake Visitor Information Hub provides information about travelling through the Wimmera Mallee, sells local products and houses an Indigenous art gallery. You can also book a tour to Lake Tyrrell there. The combination of travel information, regional products and art makes the hub a useful stop for people with a range of interests. A Lake Tyrrell Sunset Tour also offers a guided visit with a local operator.

Lake Tyrrell is in the Sea Lake area, 7 km to the north. Its flat, ancient landscape and reflective surface offer striking views, especially at sunrise and sunset. If you’d like to make the changing light the focus of your stay, you could consider a guided tour. The lake is also the subject that the Silo Art looks out towards—offering different perspectives on the same theme, as an image in an artwork and as a landscape destination.

Green Lake is 10 km away on Sea Lake-Birchip Road. It has sandy beaches, powered sites, showers, and numerous picnic and barbecue areas. Walking tracks run through the bushland around the lakebed and the adjoining Mallee and Pine-Buloke forest reserve. These features make Green Lake a different kind of destination from Sea Lake’s art venues: the focus here is on the landscape, spending time outdoors and walking.

More activities and things to do

Sea Lake Golf Club has a 9-hole sand-scrape course, open from April to October. Sea Lake Swimming Pool offers residents of all ages leisure activities such as swimming, water sports and exercise, as well as water education opportunities. The nighttime projection at the GrainCorp silos, meanwhile, explores agriculture, nature and astronomy in the Mallee. Each offering has its own focus—from golf and water activities to a cinematic portrayal of regional themes.

When choosing a holiday rental in Sea Lake, consider the focus you’d like for your trip: are you mainly interested in Silo Art, murals and galleries in town, or in the landscapes around Lake Tyrrell and Green Lake?
