Discover Fish Creek
Accommodation in Fish Creek
Fish Creek brings together art, books, regional produce and a rail trail that runs through the town centre. Galleries and studios offer further cultural points of interest.
Art, Books and Creative Materials
Stefani Hilltop Gallery is a gallery in Fish Creek that was founded in the late 1980s. Its connection to children’s literature is reflected in the studio of children’s author Alison Lester, one of Fish Creek’s attractions. The Alison Lester Gallery/Bookshop displays and sells more than 70 different limited-edition prints. The selection may change.
The Gallery/Bookshop also has a reading nook with books, sofas and floor cushions for children and other visitors who enjoy reading. A visit for literature lovers can therefore also include art. Ride the Wild Goat offers furniture and artworks made from repurposed materials. The Ride the Wild Goat sculpture garden is created by Andrew McPherson and Isabel Whyte as a gift to the community and an expression of their creative work.
Trails and Landmarks in Town
The Great Southern Rail Trail runs through the centre; Fish Creek’s Sculpture Park is in the town centre, at the trail’s intersection with Falls Road. Its location brings a sculpture attraction together with a prominent junction in town. For a longer hike, the Hoddle Mountain Trail near Fish Creek is listed as 17 km long, with a walking time of six hours. It passes through rolling grazing land and offers uninterrupted views of the South Gippsland coast. The distance and walking time help you gauge the trail as a longer day hike; the grazing land and coastal views also shape the scenery along the route.
Regional Cuisine and Produce
Long John Pickles is a café, restaurant and food store, with a focus on locally sourced produce and products. Its combination of dining and grocery shopping also appeals to travellers who want to experience regional products beyond the food on offer. The bistro at the Fish Creek Hotel showcases fresh Gippsland produce and a wide selection of regional wines. Little Oberon Cafe serves coffee and cake, with artworks on the gallery walls, regional produce and baked bread. The food offerings, product range and opening hours at Long John Pickles and Little Oberon Cafe may change.
Choose a Holiday Rental to Suit Your Travel Interests
Your planned daily routine is a good guide when choosing a holiday rental. With a walking time of six hours, the Hoddle Mountain Trail is a clearly time-defined activity; galleries, books and regional cuisine offer a different focus. Consider whether a longer hike or art and food will play a bigger part in your stay.
