Conondale: Nature Attractions Nearby
Accommodation in Conondale
Conondale opens up a range of nearby natural attractions. In the nearby Conondale National Park, the landscape features lush rainforest, tall eucalypt forests, waterfalls and creeks lined with boulders. The trails connect this natural setting with a variety of destinations: Artists Cascades, Mount Allan or a multi-day hike along the Conondale Range Great Walk.
Rainforest and water along the trail
The trail to Artists Cascades follows the Booloumba Creek Gorge and passes through dense subtropical rainforest and wet sclerophyll forest. Both forest types shape the route, while the gorge provides a sense of direction for the hike. So this route is about more than just the destination: it also takes you through varied landscapes. Check the official park alerts before your visit.
Trails, views and a multi-day hike
A walking trail from the Booloumba Creek Day-use Area leads to Mount Allan. There, a 9.6-metre-high fire tower offers panoramic views across the Mary Valley and the surrounding Conondale Ranges via a flight of stairs. The view makes this trail a distinct option alongside the hike through the gorge to Artists Cascades. Whether the tower can currently be climbed may depend on park alerts; check the notices before planning your ascent.
The Conondale Range Great Walk starts and finishes at the Booloumba Creek Day-use Area. It is 56 km long and usually takes about four days. This makes it a multi-day planning option alongside trails to individual destinations such as Artists Cascades and Mount Allan; starting and finishing at the same day-use area provides the two reference points for the route.
Mountain biking is permitted on vehicle tracks in Conondale National Park unless otherwise signposted. Follow current signs and check for closures and park alerts.
Camping at Booloumba Creek
Nearby, there are three camping areas at Booloumba Creek, each suited to different types of tents and vehicles. Area 1 is suitable for tents and also has three sites for lifted 4WD campervans and off-road camper trailers. Area 3 is for tents only. Area 4 is suitable for tents, lifted 4WD campervans, off-road caravans and off-road camper trailers. Lifted 4WD vehicles are required to cross Booloumba Creek Road for access. When choosing a camping area, consider both the type of site that suits you and the vehicle requirements for getting there.
A picnic day trip
Fritz Park is recommended as a picnic spot for a day trip to Conondale. This offers a different focus from the walking destinations: you can plan your day around a picnic rather than making one of the routes described the main destination.
