Terrey Hills brings together sporting facilities and a remarkable natural setting: JJ Melbourne Hills Memorial Reserve is part of a wildlife corridor, while the oval and tennis centre cater to several sports. There are also opportunities for hiking, mountain biking and horse riding nearby. Deciding which of these aspects you want to shape your stay can be a good starting point for planning your trip and accommodation.

Sporting facilities in Terrey Hills

Terrey Hills Oval has lit sports fields, cricket nets, a clubhouse with amenities and a skate park. The combination of different facilities makes the oval a versatile destination for a range of sporting interests. A tennis centre is right next door.

Dogs at the oval are subject to a daily leash rule: they may be off leash from midnight until 8:30 am. If you plan around this period, check the current rules with the council in advance.

Terrey Hills Tennis Centre has four lit synthetic grass courts and four lit pickleball courts. Courts and facilities are available for hire by the public. Tennis and pickleball lessons, as well as classes for people of all ages and skill levels, are also offered. The centre’s offerings may change; check with the operator for current booking information and classes.

Nature and outdoor activities nearby

JJ Melbourne Hills Memorial Reserve brings nature and sport together in a compact area: it includes a riding arena, a BMX track and a field archery area. The BMX track has one clear condition: it can only be used in dry conditions. If you plan to take part in different activities, keep this distinction in mind.

The vegetation communities are also part of the character of the reserve. Sydney Coastal Dry Sclerophyll Forest, Coastal Heath Swamp and Sydney Coastal Heath are found there. Sydney Coastal Dry Sclerophyll Forest includes the threatened Duffys Forest Ecological Community. The reserve is also part of a wildlife corridor leading to Garigal and Ku-ring-gai National Parks.

The 7 km Perimeter Trail is in Ku-ring-gai National Park, near Terrey Hills. It is suitable for horse riding, mountain biking and hiking, and passes several lookouts and picnic areas. Check current trail conditions before your visit.

There is another option for horse riders: a total of 21 km of trails are designated for horse riding across Ku-ring-gai Chase and Garigal National Parks. This differs from the 7 km Perimeter Trail, which is also listed for mountain biking and hiking. Which figure is more relevant to your plans therefore also depends on whether you want to focus on a particular trail or on designated horse-riding trails across both parks.

Choosing accommodation based on your interests

When looking for a holiday rental in Terrey Hills, you can start by considering which experiences are most important for your trip: sporting facilities such as the oval and tennis centre, or nature and trails in the reserve and nearby. The places and activities mentioned offer different points to consider when making your choice; they do not need to be combined into a single outing. If you want to include horse-riding trails, note that the 21 km figure refers to both national parks combined.
