Lincoln County combines vast natural landscapes, fishing waters and an unusually diverse regional history. Between lakes, wetlands, museums and traditional events, you can shape your trip in many different ways: with days by the water, wildlife observation in the landscape or cultural discoveries in places such as Reardan, Odessa and Davenport.

Lakes, Fishing and Landscapes

Lake Roosevelt offers numerous opportunities for shore fishing at various access points. Species that can be caught there include white sturgeon, rainbow trout, kokanee, walleye and black bass. Sprague Lake also appeals to anglers with various fish species, including rainbow trout, largemouth bass, bluegill, brown bullhead and yellow bullhead. Shore fishing is available at one WDFW access area and two resorts.

When water conditions are ice-free, Fourth of July Lake offers numerous opportunities for shore fishing. The lake is also one of the region's most productive lakes used exclusively for winter trout fishing. When planning your trip, it is therefore worth distinguishing between a stay focused on general shore fishing and one specifically focused on winter fishing.

Those who prefer to explore different types of landscapes will find forest, shrub-steppe, grassland and wetlands in the Fishtrap Recreation Area. The more than eight-mile-long, non-motorized Fishtrap Loop Trail System adds to this natural experience. More than 200 bird and other wildlife species live at Reardan Audubon Lake. Observation shelters are accessible from the parking areas via short, ADA-accessible paved paths.

History, Railroads and Regional Traditions

The Inland Northwest Rail Museum displays historic locomotives, railroad cars and exhibits on the region's railroad history. Admission includes a ride on the museum's two-track railway, The Reardan Rocket. Anyone interested in the development of the land and its communities can also visit the Lincoln County Museum. The Lincoln County Historical Society collects, preserves and makes Lincoln County's cultural heritage publicly accessible there.

The Odessa Historical Museum presents the settlement and development of the towns and surrounding landscape by pioneers who were predominantly of German-Russian descent. The museum is open on Sunday afternoons from Memorial Day weekend through September, as well as by appointment. In Wilbur, the Lauritzen Barn recalls that it was built in 1918 by construction craftsmen brought from Denmark.

Events also give the county its own distinct character. Reardan Mule Days takes place annually on the first weekend of June in Reardan. Deutschesfest offers, among other things, bratwurst, Krautranza, apple strudel, Reubens, cabbage rolls, potato dumplings and cake. The Lincoln County Open Rodeo includes bull riding, bronc riding, team roping and mutton bustin'.

Which Base Suits Your Trip?

When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Lincoln County, you can first decide which experiences should be the focus. If you want to spend a lot of time by the water, base your further search on the lakes you have selected and their respective fishing opportunities. For a cultural and historical trip, museums, events and the places mentioned above are important points of reference. U.S. Highway 2 crosses Lincoln County as an important east-west connection and can help you orient your planning geographically.

For shorter activities, there are various public facilities to choose from. Davenport Skate Park has ramps and rails and is open daily until dusk. Davenport Park has a playground, a barbecue area, a shelter and picnic tables. At Reardan Town Park, the pavilion and picnic tables can be reserved for celebrations. If you are planning a trip in 2026, also note that Hawk Creek Campground and the boat launch are scheduled to remain closed to public access from April 16 through October 6, 2026.

For further regional orientation, you can also include Odessa and Davenport in your trip planning. This allows you to adapt your choice of accommodation to your desired mix of nature, water, history and activities without losing sight of the distinct character of each destination.
