Bartlett offers many different reasons to explore the area: views across the Saco River Valley, a hike with exposed rock outcrops, historic structures and recreational activities. At Cathedral Ledge, a one-mile road leads to the 700-foot-high cliff. From there, views stretch across the Saco River Valley to the White Mountains. Table Mountain offers a different perspective: the hike is a four-mile round trip and provides views of Mount Chocorua and Mount Passaconaway. If you’re looking for a vacation rental, consider whether you want to shape your stay around experiences of the landscape, or focus more on culture and recreational activities.

Viewpoints and Trails in Bartlett

The drive to Cathedral Ledge and the hike up Table Mountain offer distinctly different ways to visit. On Table Mountain, the trail includes exposed rock outcrops; the route covers a total of four miles round trip. The viewpoints look out toward two named mountains, Mount Chocorua and Mount Passaconaway. Factor in the full round trip when planning your day, but don’t infer the hiking time or difficulty from the distance alone.

Bear Notch Road also combines an experience of nature with a sense of direction: the road leads from Bartlett Village to the Kancamagus Highway, with several viewpoints along the way. This provides another way to include viewpoints in your travel plans. Cathedral Ledge State Park is generally open for recreational activities at all times, unless a notice closes it or imposes restrictions. This condition applies to the park, so look out for any relevant notices as you plan.

Bridge History and Insights into Bartlett’s Past

The Bartlett Bridge is a covered Paddleford truss bridge over the Saco River, built in 1851. Its design and construction date make it a specific stop for travelers interested in the history of local structures as well as mountain scenery. The Bartlett Historical Society and Museum is dedicated to the history of Bartlett, including Glen and Intervale.

The museum building also has its own history: formerly St. Joseph Church, it was built in 1890 and later renovated and converted into a museum. The building is listed on the New Hampshire State Register of Historic Places. The museum thus brings together the history of Bartlett and the building’s former use as a church. Those interested in local history will find a different focus here than on the roads and trails in the surrounding area.

Recreational Activities for Different Interests

Story Land began operating in Glen in late 1954 and has more than 50 attractions. These include Roar-O-Saurus, Polar Coaster, Swan Boats, Antique Cars and Teacups. Moo Lagoon adds a water play area with water slides and themed sprayers. These examples show the variety of activities on offer; Story Land is a distinct outing alongside Bartlett’s nature and history attractions.

Attitash offers private and group lessons for children and adults. For trips with children, it’s worth noting that lessons are available to both age groups. A free shuttle also connects the Attitash Base Area, the Bear Peak Base Area and the parking lots. If you include Attitash in your outing plans, you can take this connection between the areas into account.

Another activity is offered by Northern Extremes Snowmobile Rentals: guided snowmobile tours and self-guided snowmobile rentals are available in the White Mountain National Forest from the company’s headquarters in Bartlett. The choice between a guided tour and a self-guided rental represents two different formats. Together with hiking, scenic drives, a museum and an amusement park, these options offer a wide range of themes to help guide your search for a vacation rental and the focus you want for your stay.
