Beatrice combines outdoor activity with stories, theater and regional tastings. Those looking for a vacation rental in Beatrice will find a variety of ways to enjoy time together as a family: trails for biking, walking or jogging, a storybook trail with pages from a book, parks and cultural activities. Deciding which of these experiences you want to shape your stay can be a helpful starting point when choosing a destination.

Trails for exercise and exploring together

In Beatrice, the Hike/Bike Trail comprises more than ten miles of community trails suitable for biking, walking or jogging. Trail signs and mile markers help you find your way. The trail network connects numerous parks with sports fields, shelters, playgrounds, tennis courts and benches. Alongside opportunities to exercise, the network also links to a variety of places to take a break and enjoy other outdoor activities.

The Beatrice StoryWalk offers a special way to combine exercise and reading. There are 20 stations along the trail, each featuring a page from a book. The StoryWalk was designed to encourage reading, exercise and family time. It is located on the Homestead Trail on 2nd Street, between Ella Street and Grant Street. The stations turn your walk into a story that you can follow one page at a time.

Water is also part of the family experience in Beatrice: Sertoma Splash Pad offers children a variety of water activities, including spray jets and tipping water buckets. At Charles Park, you can plan a family picnic, fly a kite or read a book. The park was established in 1914 as Beatrice’s first public park.

A longer trail with a historic route

The Chief Standing Bear Trail begins in Beatrice and runs along the east side of the Big Blue River. Following a former Union Pacific Railroad route, it stretches about 37 miles from Beatrice to Marysville, Kansas. This makes it significantly longer than the Hike/Bike Trail’s more than ten miles of community trails. Its approximate length and route along a former rail line are useful points of reference if you want to include longer trails in your trip.

History, theater and regional tastings

At the Gage County Historical Society & Museum, you can learn about the history of Gage County through stories of industry, business, innovation and community. The museum is located in historic downtown Beatrice, at the intersection of 2nd Street and Court Street. It is housed in a 1906 Burlington passenger depot. Yesterday’s Lady offers another glimpse into the past: the museum of historic clothing and vintage salon are located in the Schmuck Building, built in 1887, downtown.

The Beatrice Community Players are another part of the local scene for theater enthusiasts. This live theater in downtown Beatrice offers a variety of entertainment and educational programs for adults and students throughout the year. The regular season includes six performances. Families with different interests can therefore consider theater and local history alongside outdoor experiences when planning a stay.

For a taste of the region, visit Tall Tree Tastings, a tasting room in downtown Beatrice serving Nebraska wine and craft beer. Together with the trails, parks and cultural activities, it shows that Beatrice offers more than one way to plan your day. When looking for a vacation rental, it may therefore help to first consider whether you want your stay to focus more on exercise, outdoor family time, history or theater.
